Romantic in the classic maritime sense, the Grand Banks 46 Europa's spacious deck house opens aft to a shaded cockpit, a design feature both functional and beautiful. Built on the same hull-form as the popular 46 Classic, the Europa offers an additional design distinction that further encourages indoor/outdoor activity: a flybridge that extends over the side decks. The result is an attractive, safe-from-the-weather steering and navigational station. At anchor or at dockside, a teak-crafted door slides open, providing a direct connection from the salon to the roomy, aft cockpit space. Sleeping arrangements are equally attractive. If you happen to be in the market for extra space, beauty and dependability, this is without a doubt the yacht for you.
AccommodationsMaster stateroom offers 6'8" headroom with a 6'10" long island queen berth. Storage is in cabinets to port & stbd below hullside nightstands, a chest of four drawers and a cabinet to port, four drawers below the berth, and a large cedar-lined hanging locker with three louvered doors. The master stateroom is bright and airy because of its volume, as well as the overhead hatch and 4x stainless opening cabin ports that let in natural light and air. A Skyscreen/shade and curtains provide privacy and shade.
Master head is accessed exclusively via the master stateroom. To port, this cabin offers 6'7" headroom, a stainless opening cabin port for ventilation, and a VacuFlush electric/fresh water head system. There is a wide, full-length mirror on the aft bulkhead and storage in hullside cabinets above the sink and a shelf and cabinet above the VacuFlush.
Shower stall is to stbd and accessed via the master stateroom and also via the guest head. The stall is spacious, with ample elbow room, 6'5" headroom, and a smooth teak grate under foot. A stainless opening cabin port ventilates this area. Storage is in a large hullside cabinet.
Guest head is to stbd, just aft of the shower stall, with 6'6" headroom and a VacuFlush head. A TankWatch 4 holding tank monitor displays just below the sink counter. A stainless opening cabin port ventilates this space. Storage is in a hullside cabinet above the counter and in a cabinet and drawer below the counter.
Guest cabin is just across to port, offering 6'5" headroom. Both twin berths have inner spring mattresses and are 6'4" and 6'7" long, running athwartship. Storage is in three drawers below the aft berth, four drawers below the fwd berth, and in a cedar-lined hanging locker with a louvered door. There is a stainless opening cabin port in this cabin for light and fresh air.
Galley is up, bright, and social to the rest of the main cabin. 6'9" headroom in this area, the large window above the counter slides open for ventilation. U-shape provides ample counter space, maneuvering space, and storage below. Storage is in 3x flip-up cubbies in the dash (fwd), 4x drawers and a flip-out trash cubby under the sink (outboard), 2x cabinets above the aft counter, a large cabinet under the aft counter, and a pantry cupboard down the companionway steps. To stbd, aft of the lower helm, is a bar with wine and glass storage, a hinged Corian cutting board, and an ice maker below.
Main salon is bright and social, with panoramic views through large windows to port, stbd, fwd and aft. Windows slide open and center windshield hinges open to create a terrific cross breeze. The decks are accessed effortlessly through a large aft door and a 2nd door at the lower helm, fwd to stbd. A retractable screen in the aft door slides open and closed effortlessly to keep bugs out. The Europa design offers a covered aft cockpit and covered side decks, allowing you to step outside and stay dry even in the rain. The covered decks also provide shade, keeping the decks and crew from heating up. Headroom in the salon is 6'7". The L-shaped settee to port and straight settee to stbd are both 6'8" long. Storage is in flip-down cubbies below the settees, 2x drawers and a cabinet below the port end table, and in a tambour-door cabinet with shelves and a drawer below the stbd end table/entertainment center.
Aft cockpit is large and covered for protection from sun and rain. Storage is in 2x large lazarettes and in a cabinet below the flybridge staircase. Fly bridge is accessed safely via this staircase. Spin the helm and mate Stidd seats to face the L-settee and teak grate table, creating a very social deck. A bimini with full enclosure protects the helm and mate seats when piloting in inclement weather. Aft, on the extended hard top is a cradle for storing the dinghy and an electric davit for hoisting and deploying the dinghy.
