Accommodations and Lay Out
The Grand Banks 42 Europas (as with other Grand Banks) are renowned for their handsome, well-appointed, full teak interiors. This particular 42 has the solid teak parquet sole and can accommodate up to four in her two-stateroom layout. Natural light and ventilation are abundant with windows, many of them sliders with screens, surrounding the galley and salon, while four stainless steel ports with screens and three large hatches provide equally substantial light and excellent ventilation below decks. When natural ventilation and two 16,000 BTU reverse cycle (heat and cool) will keep all of the spaces at a comfortable temperature or, if cruising early or late in the season, provide plenty of heat. An abundance of 12 volt lighting meets all needs with several overhead lamps in working spaces and swivel style reading lamps at all berths and settees.
Starting forward is the private Master Stateroom, featuring a 6'-6" plus V-berth, (filler could easily be added), below which there is storage in drawers and drop-face lockers, while above the berth the hull is lined with varnished teak ceilings and storage shelves. Access to the anchor locker is forward. Aft of the stbd vee is the generous cedar lined hanging locker with light. Private access to the Master Head is aft and to starboard. The Master Head features a large Corian-topped vanity with under mount sink and excellent storage in drawers and lockers, a Vacuflush fresh water W.C., and a stall shower compartment. The V-berth arrangement is actually more comfortable than the standard island queen arrangement.
Opposite the Master Head is the Guest Stateroom, featuring an L-shaped arrangement for the berths, with 6'-6" single berth running athwartship along the aft bulkhead and fore and aft outboard, with a hanging locker inboard and drawers below the outboard berth. At the forward bulkhead is a door leading to the Guest Head, featuring a Vacuflush W.C. Corain vanity with sink and storage and ensuite shower arrangement.
The layout on this Grand Banks 42 is particularly attractive, in that if affords two completely separate heads as well as the typical two private staterooms.
From the lower companionway, up three steps (with storage under), to the Galley, Lower Helm Station, and Salon.
The Galley is to port and is U-shaped, providing generous amounts of counter space and storage. Front-loading refrigeration box and top-loading freezer box, both equipped with Gurnert holding plates, while cooking is managed in the Convection Microwave. The Gas Stove was removed to make room for a beautiful built in Wine Cooler.
The galley is fitted with Corian counter surfaces and a double basin stainless steel sink. An abundance of additional storage for food supplies and galley are easily handled in several lockers and drawers, as well as in a "pantry cabinet" in the adjacent companionway. A bar cabinet is opposite the galley and provides storage for extra wine bottles, glasses, etc., and houses the newer U-Line Ice maker.
The Lower Helm -W- Pilot Door and updated GARMIN Electronics is to starboard and features a double bench seat with drawer storage and a locker below, full vessel controls and electronics, and the yacht's separate electrical distribution panels.
Next, aft is the full-width Salon with L-sette, which converts to a Double Berth with storage under, aft of which is a small bureau with drawers. Opposite the settee are two barrel chairs, between which there is a credenza, which houses the yacht's entertainment systems. All of the salon upholstery is Indigo Blue Ultra Suede and curtains with a matching stripe provide privacy when desired.
One of the nice pluses to the Europa layout is the double sliding doors aft in the Salon that open out onto the sheltered, yet open aft deck, truly bringing the outdoors in and expanding the salon space.

Hull and Deck
Recently professionally maintained Teak Decks. Solid fiberglass hull with molded in plank lines, spray and rub rails with original white gel coat in excellent condition with blue boot top. The hull was laid up with Hydrex resin in the exterior laminates for superior osmotic blistering resistance.
Fiberglass decks with a 9/16" (thickest in the industry) teak decking overlay on the side decks and flying bridge. Stainless steel safety rails with gates P&S.
The difficult to-maintain teak planking on the transom was eliminated on this GB and she is one of the more modern Grand Banks 42's, with a fully-molded-in flying bridge, thus eliminating the teak trim band. However, in keeping with the attractive and traditional line of the boat, there are well maintained teak cap rails and brow around the edge of the hard top and a few other varnished teak accoutrements. Exterior hardware is all polished stainless steel. She has been kept undercover since new and is in remarkable condition.
Starting aft is the gracious aft deck with voluminous deep lazarettes below as well as the "garage" just aft of the sliding helm door that access auxiliary equipment and provides additional storage. Wide side decks with bulwarks and railings lead forward to the substantial anchor platform under side deck covers.
A huge plus to the Grand Banks 42 Europa is the walk-up flying bridge access courtesy of the molded in steps with storage under that access that space from the aft deck.
The Flying Bridge offers a superior layout, with two Stidd Chairs with high stainless steel posts forward and the optional molded fiberglass L-settee aft and to starboard, as well as a teak table for dining or hors d'oeuvres. The chairs and settee are all fitted with Sunbrella covers.
