SAGA 35
The Saga 35 was designed by Bob Perry, who is well-known for other performance cruisers. The Saga 35 may be built for speed, but she is a cruiser through and through. Her near-plumb bow with massive SS bowsprit and maximized sailing length is a direct result of Mr. Perry's intentions. Underway, the Saga 35 extends her sailing waterline to over 34 feet. This longer waterline creates a yacht with the hull speed and sailing potential of a conventional 40-foot cruiser, yet the modest beam and moderately light displacement create less drag to provide the nearly effortless sailing of a smaller boat. The easily-driven hull form requires less energy to attain speeds comparable to heavier, beamier cruisers. Lower loads on sails and sheets mean less stress on the boat's structure, resulting in longer life. Under sail, the Saga 35 will reel off the miles with uncommon ease. With the 38hp diesel engine, estimated top speed is 8 knots with 7.3 knots at normal cruise rpm. Ranger's auto-pilot provides another hand while underway.
Ranger is hull #6 of 10 and rarely does one see such a well-kept SAGA 35 on the market. She is equipped with a Variable Geometry Rig (designed by Bob Perry) that adjusts the sail proportions to eliminate an overlapping headsail when sailing close-hauled. Thus, when you exit the harbor and realize your next destination is right on the nose, you will have the added convenience of a self-tacking jib to help you climb upwind with no extra grinding after the first tack. The Genoa is only needed for off the-wind destinations and is on its own Harken furling unit for easy handling.
AccommodationsFurthest forward is the MASTER cabin with a custom mattress, cushioned changing seat, private head access, and lots of storage. The V-berth is roomy. The 52-inch wide bunk is 6'4" long at its shortest point and 7'6" at its longest. A cedar-lined hanging locker and numerous cabinets mounted along each side of the hull provide plenty of storage for long adventures.
Aft of the master and to starboard is the HEAD, which is accessed through either the master or the saloon to help maintain privacy when there are guests onboard. All surfaces are easy to keep clean and dry thanks to the low-maintenance molded fiberglass interior.
- Two access doors to head (Master and Salon)
- Wilcox marine head
- 20 gal holding tank with electric macerator pump for overboard discharge, direct overboard discharge, and deck pumpout
- Shower and sink drain into electric sump pump
- Excellent storage outboard and under sink vanity
Next aft is the SALOON, with center-mounted drop leaf cherry table and comfortable seating outboard with blue ultra-suede cushions. In addition to the outboard cabinet storage, there is additional storage behind the back rests and underneath the settee cushions. Each seat converts to an excellent sea-berth with lee cloths.
Ideally positioned right next to the companionway and the nav station, the GALLEY offers excellent counterpace and storage. While at the galley, one can easily communicate with the helmsmen or pop over to the nav to ensure a proper course. The counter space is similar in size to what you typically see in a much larger yacht and is accompanied with plenty of storage.
- Twin dish stainless steel sinks
- 12v Nova Kool refrigeration
- 9 cu ft. insulated refrigerator
- Force 10 three-burner propane stove/oven
- Hot/cold water pressure
- Stainless steel guard bar and Chef’s belt
- Corian countertops
Athwartships the galley is the forward facing NAV STATION. The table can easily accept a full-sized chart, with additional chart storage underneath. The ship's power distribution panel is mounted in full view with illuminated lights to ensure proper function. Additional storage in underneath the nav seat and just forward in (4) large drawers and a cedar-lined hanging closet.
- Forward-facing nav station
- Large Nav table
- AC/DC distribution panel with illuminated lights and amperage meter
- Horizon Intrepid VHF w/ RAM Mic @ helm

Furthest aft is the spacious QUARTER BERTH with opening window port for ventilation. Underneath the berth is a drawer for storage. Privacy curtains can be drawn when needed.
CockpitThere is plenty of storage in the cockpit. To port of the helm is a propane locker for two 20-pound tanks. The cockpit lazarette is about five feet deep, allowing for massive amounts of storage, with steps to get in and out. To starboard, there is a vented locker for carrying a fuel tank. The cockpit features 6'6" seats for stargazing. Also, the 35 features the Saga walkout transom - no strenuous climbing up or over a coaming: simply walk out at dinghy boarding level. A transom door closes off the opening, keeping pets and kids safely on board. Molded-in foot braces make the crew comfortable even when heeled. Four stainless harken eyes are mounted to clip in while offshore.
