Builder/DesignerThe DeFever 49 Cockpit MY is basically a DeFever 44 Trawler with a 5-foot cockpit addition and extended rudders and shafts. She’s not your typical sundeck trawler with an elevated cabintop over the aft stateroom. Rather, the 49 is a rare flushdeck yacht with single-level walkaround decks—an eminently practical design that results in an attractive profile as well as generally improved accessibility. The DeFever 49 is a heavy boat for her size, and her full-displacement hull delivers a notably comfortable ride in an offshore chop. Belowdecks, her two-stateroom interior is arranged with the galley aft in the salon, which makes it convenient to the aft deck. Visibility from the lower helm is excellent, and port and starboard doors forward in the salon provide easy access to the decks. The aft stateroom is huge with tremendous storage and space for a washer/dryer. A great feature of the DeFever 49 is her walk-in engineroom with its easy access and near-standing headroom. Additional features include a full teak interior, wide side decks, radar arch, hardtop, and a transom door. Twin 135hp Perkins diesels cruise the DeFever 49 at an economical 7–8 knots.
