Overview
WILD MOOSE went through an extensive refit over an 18-month period at Zimmerman's in Virginia. The initial twelve month refit was in 2012/13 while an additional six months of work was performed in 2014/15. A key goal of refit was to increase reliability in systems and minimize concerns that older equipment would fail or require a lot of maintenance. Any mechanical or electrical system that was tired or prone to maintenance that you find in older Grand Banks was replaced.
The items below were all added or updated in the refit:
- Air conditioning with three zones
- Hurricane II hydronic diesel fired furnace- 4 zones
- European washer and dryer - new 2013 - re-positioned for better access
- Onan 13.5 kW generator and sound shield
- Side Power bow thruster with joy stick at both helms
- Most electronics replaced with Garmin (chart-plotter, radar, XM satellite receiver).
- Class B A.I.S. transponder
- Entertainment center with remote retracting Samsung 32" TV
- New aluminum fuel tanks.
- New aluminum water tanks.
- All holding tank hoses replaced with new hard pvc.
- All hatches replaced.
- All thru-hulls were removed, re-bedded and replaced.
- All window frames refinished including replacing some sliding windows with solid glass.
- Old inlet fuses at bow and stern replaced with new current protection boxes for shore power.
- Replaced inverter with Mastervolt 12/2500-11 .
- Battery boxes and batteries upgraded, replaced and area rebuilt.
- For safety two Fireboy fire extinguishers in engine room were added, with automatic shut down of engine and fans
- Engines thoughtfully updated: after-coolers replaced with new for both engines, fuel injection pumps replaced with re-manufactured CAT parts for both engines, all water hoses and most hoses replaced (work performed by CAT).
- Garmin cameras added for engine room and on mast for looking aft for docking (viewed on chart plotter).
- Full canvas fly bridge enclosure

Mechanical and ElectricalWild Moose is powered by low hour twin Caterpillar 375 hp 3208 TA diesel engines. Both engines have been well maintained and during the refit and in 2016, if a repair was deemed appropriate for one engine, the same upgrade performed for both engines.

- fuel injection pump
- water hoses

- main seacock and strainers
- engine room fans
- oil pump changer (replaced in refit)
- line cutters (replaced)
- metal heat shields for all fuel filters
- oil drain valves.
- 5 bladed 30 x 2 Nibral propellers
- 2" Prop shafts (shafts, couplings & cutlass bearings replaced during the re-fit)
- 122 gallon stainless steel water tank - 2013
Additional engine and engine room information:
- Delta-T engine room fans replaced original blowers
- Dual Racor fuel filters for each engine.
- T-handle Vacuum Gauge added to all 4 Racor fuel filters.
- Morse engine controls
- Fireboy fire suppression system - upgrade
- Oil pump out system for engines and genset- replaced.
- Manual steering cable- replaced.
- 12 V bilge pumps (3)
- 1 drying pump with counter added.
- 1 manual bilge pump.
- Macerator pump.
- Heart tank tender for water and holding tanks
- air pressure hose replaced .
- Holding tank indicator with lights in aft head in addition to tank tender meter which is at main helm.
- Three (3) reverse cycle air conditioning units. One (1) 16 KBTU and two (2) 12 KBTU units. - Replaced during refit
- 5 Blade Propellers
- Spectra 30 gph water maker
GENERATOR:
- Cummins Onan 13.5 kW genset - replaced during refit - 920 hours
- Sound Shield
- Remote start control panel at lower helm
12 Volt DC:
- Switch panel with breakers
- Volt and Amp meters
- (2) 51 amp alternators
- Battery banks rebuilt and replaced old batteries; wiring upgraded during refit;
- 3 AGM house batteries
- 3 starting batteries for both engines and genset added
- Batteries temperature monitored.
- 12-volt service including all pumps, lighting, navigation instruments etc.
- 12 volt DC power plugs at both helm stations.
110 Volt DC:
- Switch panel with breakers
- Volt and amp meter
- 50 amp shore power connections at bow and stern
- Both 50' and 25' 50 amp shorepower cords
- Twin 30 amp to 50 amp shorepower pigtail adapter
- 12 electrical outlets including one in the engine room and one by mast.
- New inverter/charger Mastervolt Combi 12/2500-100
- 12 gallon electric water heater (w/ engine heat exchanger)
Deck and Hull - New Plexiglas on fly-bridge venturi and chart table - 2018
- Solid fiberglass hull with original white gel coated hull

- Lofrans anchor windlass - replaced at refit
- 200 feet chain for primary anchor.
