Cabo Rico 34 Adventure
"Why this Cabo Rico 34? Our family was seeking a long-distance cruising adventure, one that would include extended live-aboard under both coastal and blue-water conditions. While our dream boat would often be sailed by the two of us, she also had to be capable of both family cruising (six of us when the kids and grandkids could join) and single-handing. We liked solidly built sailboats with blue-water safety and comfort in a seaway, ones from designers like W.I.B. Crealock. Lastly, we wanted a beautiful boat, one to make us proud, in form, quality construction, and condition.
Over the years, our adventure took us from Narragansett Bay, Buzzards Bay, Marthaââ?¬â?¢s Vineyard, and Nantucket, then north through Boston and Gloucester to the coast of Maine, and finally to the blue-water passage up the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia to the far reaches of Cape Breton. Heads turned when around other boaters. A favorite memory came from a life-long sailor watching us navigate the St. Peterââ?¬â?¢s canal into the Bras dââ?¬â?¢Or lakes of Cape Breton, as he said ââ?¬Å?thank-you for being here with your beautiful boatââ?¬Â¦she makes me happy!ââ?¬ï¿½ Solitude, from nights offshore to secluded Nova Scotia anchorages, was our joy. Whales in the Bay of Fundy, rafting to fishing boats in working harbors, the challenge of tidal currents in some of the toughest waters of the east coast, while in thick fog ââ?¬â?? all were part of the adventure. We welcome someone else with a dream, someone to carry our adventure onward." ~ Norm and Dani Brown current owners Hildur Marie
Construction "Each Cabo Rico is handcrafted, beginning with a heavily built hull using the latest resins. This is a solid hull built in one piece. Between each hand sanded layer of 1 1/2 oz. mat or 24 oz. roving, the huge mold must be rolled from one side to the other to apply the next layer. But to produce a true ocean-going yacht there are no short cuts. Structural integrity is essential.
All bolts are accessible from below, as are those for the chain plates and stanchion bases. The keel of a true yacht must be strong. We use multiple ballast castings placed inside the keel cavity and separate by fiberglass bulkheads. All voids are filled with special fiberglass compound to ensure immobility of the ballast. Then, the whole area is covered with multiple layers of mat and roving to provide the superior strength, rigidity and security of a double hull in this crucial area..." ~ Cabo Rico 34 Brochure
