Accommodations
Overview:
The current owners are lifetime boaters and experienced cruisers. They have owned Silhouette for 10 years, approx 5 of which was on Lake Lewisville in TX (fresh water) where she was substantially rebuilt. The remaining 3 years was enjoyed in the Caribbean down as far as Grenada, then 2 years in the Bahamas, East Coast, Florida Keys and Gulf of Mexico. They carefully restored a well built cruising boat to a modern luxury cruiser with all the amenities you can imagine.
The battery bank is even large enough to run the air conditioning all night in the tropics during hurricane season. The galley is fit for gourmet cooking. The Awlgrip hull is meticulously faired and painted. The extensive new Burmese teak joiner work inside is typically found only in top dollar custom yachts. The systems are all renewed; compliant to 2006 ABYC guidelines and to the high standards of the owners, a degreed engineer and his meticulous wife. Silhouette is a handsome, safe, comfortable, dry, and blue water passage maker, just refit again in 2014 and ready for new owners to live the dream now.
Main Salon:
After the galley and engine room, this is another "Wow". First your eyes may be drawn to the teak and holly floors, all new in 2007. They were finished the "Hinckley Way" with epoxy primer all around, including bottom and edges, then top coated with at least a dozen coats of Interlux Perfection linear polyurethane in high gloss. All original cabinets replaced with custom Burmese teak cabinets. Teak veneers were all matched from the same log, and are the best grade available. Stb. side bench settee was replaced with two ergonomic captains chairs. The leather chairs are from Eckornes in Denmark and have custom bases to mount them firmly to the boat yet retain swivel and slightly reclining bases. There is a console with storage between the two chairs. Hinged storage under the chairs and behind. The HD television is mounted port side for comfortable movie nights on the hook. A premium sound system from British NAD includes separate amp, tuner, CD player and Phillips blu-ray player. TV antenna mounted up mast receives both HD and analog signals.
The boat was extensively rebuilt in 2008/2014, but is a 1987 model. 9 Cases of drinks fit under one panel of the undersole storage. There are approximately 13 undersole storage panels in the main cabin area. The main salon table is fabricated with Tamo Ash, an exotic and beautiful burl wood from Asia. It folds neatly in half to allow easy access to port storage areas..
V-Berth and Forward Head:
V-Berth is generously sized and has hinged access to anchor locker. Storage below bunk contains included cruising spinnaker. Plenty of storage under bunk for an extra sail next to the Vetus bow thruster motor. Ensuite head has extra lighting for touching up make-up or shaving. Indirect night lighting for use underway at night. Large separate shower stall with storage under shower seat. Par electric "Quiet Flush" head with fresh water flush keeps odors down and prevents calcium build up in output hoses. Deep custom sink, designer faucet, and Avonite polished countertop, new approx 2007.
Aft cabin and Head:
Aft cabin has generous queen berth with custom Innerspring mattress. Side opening port lights have new smoke tinted lenses in 2014. New teak and holly flooring with storage underneath. Storage lockers at head and foot of berth provide storage for scuba gear etc. in addition to the hanging locker and drawers. Aft head includes electric Par "Quiet Flush" head. 45 Gallon holding tank new approx 2005 with on-deck pump out fitting or overboard macerator pump. Separate stall stand up shower with thermostatic mixing valve to save water and keep temperature constant regardless of water fluctuations. Hinged door in shower to access stand-up engine room.
Third Cabin / Nav Office:
There is a new teak cabinet on the bulkhead housing all new wiring, electric panels, VHF, and SSB. There are 44 DC circuit breakers and 24 AC breakers on custom electric panels. Breakers are all labeled. There is a nice sea berth for one. A full length shelf folds up to form a work bench or a place to set groceries while provisioning. A traditional nav desk with hinged Avonite (Corian upgrade) top makes a great computer desk. A tall cabinet with two generous drawers and two cabinets is great to hold your computer and two hanging file boxes of your paper records. The top of the cabinet is just right to hold your printer, copier, scanner. Electronics include a Wi-Fi booster with router inside and outside antenna on the upper spreader. This booster allows you to reach Wi-Fi signals from shore when you are anchored out in the harbor. It was found to be most desirable and useful. Icom M802 SSB (shortwave) includes Pactor 3 modem for offshore email via Ham or Sailmail most anywhere in the world. Cell phone booster with antenna mounted on upper spreader to improve coastal reception. The Nav office contains separate fan coil unit for cooling and heating, even with the door closed.
HullFresh Awlgrip paint in Flag Blue with gold stripes and clear coat over stripes. Hull extensively faired with 10 gallons of epoxy Awlgrip primer and sanded smooth. Paint completed Jan. 2014 at Bock Marine by Bruce Mallard, a master certified Awlgrip painter from Hatteras Yachts. Hull is very stiff and quiet, with hand laid structural fiberglass grid below cabin sole. Overbuilt compared to today's standards. Only 3 blisters in 10 years, each smaller than a dime. Hull underbody is a performance cruiser design with a spade rudder and long fin keel.
*Fresh bottom paint Feb. 2014 at Bock Marine. Ablative Petit Ultima SR.
GalleyThe galley was specified to perfection for gourmet cooking. New ENO Le Chef four burner propane stove with oven in 2007. Dishwasher hidden on electric lift that rises out of the Avonite (Corian upgrade) countertop. Hidden Kitchen Aid stand mixer that hinges out of the cabinet on custom stainless platform for convenient use and stowage. 19 Cubic feet of refrigerator/freezer space with 3 access doors properly hinged and top loaded from the countertop. Twin Sea Frost 12 volt DC refrigeration units keep the boxes cold off the battery bank, new in 2007. Ample storage for dishes, spices, utensils, pans, wine glasses, and food. Microwave oven. Xintex propane fume detector with auto shutdown. Brokers Comments/ Additional InformationWhere to start?? Hmmmm.. How about Silhouette being the most innovative and best thought out cruising boat that I've ever been on... Now add that her custom interior fit and finish has to be seen to be believed... Her Interior woodwork is finished the "Hinckley Way" with Epoxy primer and 2-part Linear Polyurethane top coat. 14 COATS IN ALL!!
The entire boat has been re-fit from stem to stern from 2008 to 2014. The only thing 1987 about this boat is her fiberglass and even that has been strengthened, polished, and painted!
Spend an hour on the boat with the Owners/ Rebuilders and you'll know why Silhouette should be your next boat. Prepare to be VERY impressed!
Thoughts From the First MateThis boat has been a dream to sail, provision, entertain folks and keep tidy for many reasons.
The galley is conveniently located at the bottom of the forward companionway. Fridge and freezer are spacious (approx 19 cubic feet). This galley also features a dishwasher, microwave and a full size classic Kitchen Aid mixer which cantilevers from its storage cabinet into the galley with ease.
Two full cabins with adjoining heads with separate showers make both the owners and overnight guests comfortable. Separate companionways forward and aft make sleeping, dressing etc. nice and private. The large battery bank allows air conditioning to run overnight and keep owners and two guests comfortable.
The center cockpit is very roomy for entertaining and dry during passages and allows for the huge engine room. This large engine room provides enough space for a clothes washer, 42 gallon per hour watermaker, drive compressor, air compressor and all of the air conditioning compressors (the noisy part) are enclosed as well.
There is an unbelievable amount of storage. The settees are not cluttered with mechanicals... all are available for your things, food, clothing, books, tools, etc. The floors are easily lifted to access the bilges which are incredibly roomy for storage.
Benefits of the two companionway layout include exceptional privacy between owner and guest staterooms, no ingress/egress blockage as found in pass through galleys, ventilation to the aft cabin is exceptional, and the cockpit is enclosed by a hardtop dodger and semi-rigid acrylic windows making the "outside path" feel like a normal extension of the living quarters.
This is MUST-SEE boat as the pictures (as nice as they are) do not do her justice. Seldom does the actual boat exceed her photos but in this case it is actually true!!
