Comments on the BoatThere are more items that go with the boat. The new owner will need a truck!
Since I have owned the boat, I have replaced all the line clutches, much of the deck hardware except winches, all of the running rigging at least once, lifelines and stanchions, upgraded the main traveler, upgraded the propane system, replaced the cabin windows, Replaced the interior headliner, replaced some teak interior paneling, reupholstered all interior cushions, refinished the cabin sole, had the mast step rebuilt, painted the mast and boom with Awlgrip, replaced the head, replaced all hoses (exhaust hose, fuel filler hose, head/holding tank hoses, fuel, galley, and water pump hoses), repaired some deck and hull core areas, replaced the push pit to allow easier access to the swim ladder, replace the cabin top handrails and the taffrail trim, replaced most of the electronics, and displays, replaced the compasses, as well as other items. I also have the original brochures, build file and import documents for the boat from C&C Yachts.
Condition- The only items that I am aware of that may need attention are cosmetic: the hull has a couple of small areas that were repaired and have discolored over time, the areas surrounding the cabin windows have some cracks and chips. Some imperfections that came with the boat when I purchased it are still evident, but have not required corrective measures. The boat is 34 years old and has been a race boat all its days. Considering its age and use, it is in very good condition. I expect a prospective buyer would have a current survey done by a competent professional.
Brokers Comments:
I was a semi-regular crew on Shrew/Tigger, including the inaugural sail when the boat was first launched! The crew from C&C Yachts got the boat in the water and rigged at Niagara-On-The-Lake. The day of big unveiling, Rob Ball and other members of the C&C Design Team brought the boat across the Niagara River to pick up Don McPherson, myself and a guy from North Sails who had a couple of demo sails C&C had arranged for. The wind was a perfect 10-12 and expectations were highââ?¬Â¦ But, as sh.t can happen, the bolt rope on the mainsail the North guy brought was way to large to fix in the groove in the mastââ?¬Â¦ Being a sailmaker myself at the time, I did have a little empathy for the North guy, but I was also very happy it was him, and not me trying to wiggle a ½Ã¢â?¬ï¿½ boltrope up a 5/16ââ?¬ï¿½ groove! After the disappointment settle we cracked open a few Canadian beers the C&C guys thoughtfully brought along and went out for a sail anyway, sans mainsailââ?¬Â¦
Shrew/Tigger was a very fast boat from the very beginningââ?¬Â¦ and still winning races in convincing style today. Unique to Tigger is the layout of gear and equipment. The original owner was a skilled boat builder, and very capable rigger. Being the forth ââ?¬Å?Shrewââ?¬ï¿½ there was plenty of thought and experience that went into the layout. As an example, the primary winches are aft in the cockpit to separate the helmsman from some of the ciaos at mark roundings, there is a three-halyard system forward with two winches at the base of the mast that allow two crew to manage all hoists, douses and sail changes, again minimizing congestion in the cockpit and there is ample purchase on all rigging to get things done without super human effort. The current owner told me it took some getting use to, but once they had a few races under there belts it was a joy to see how well everything worked so well!
In my opinion you will have to long and very hard to find a better Racer/Cruiser anywhere near this price.
