Accommodations
The Hinckley Bermuda 40 provides accommodations for six in a single stateroom. Light filled layout thanks to her four large fixed ports, five smaller fixed ports and one opening port in the head, two very large hatches and three dorades add additional light and ventilation. All hatches and opening ports fitted with screens. Twelve volt lighting throughout with swivel style lamps at all settees and berths, and dome type lamps in working areas.
GOLD DUST is a full mahogany interior yacht with teak and holly soles and has what became the preferred option, once offered, having the separate navigation station to starboard. Among other refit items, the entire interior has been re-varnished since 2010 and was given multiple coats and looks as fresh and new as any '81 possibly could. The bulkheads were stripped and refinished with a minimum of eight coats and in one or two areas new veneer was refitted. As part of the 2010 portion of her refit the cabin sole was removed and lightly belt sanded, completely coated in epoxy, top, bottom, edges and then given eight plus coats of varnish.
Starting forward is the separate Stateroom, a 6'-6" v-berth with drawer storage below. Above the berth the hull is lined with varnished mahogany "ceiling" strips and there is a 3/4 length shelf. Aft and to starboard is a generous hanging locker.
Next aft to port is the enclosed Head with athwart-ship running Corian vanity sink. Hot and cold pressure water, manual W.C. plumbed via a Y valve to the holding tank, ensuite shower with teak grate and curtain draining to a separate sump with pump. The port in this compartment has opening for better ventilation.
The Salon features settees P&S with drawer storage under and in the seat backs and pilot berths above and outboard. Dining is from a drop leaf varnished mahogany table which houses the centerboard winch. Additional storage is in a bureau and locker forward and to starboard.
The L-shaped Galley is aft and to port with excellent storage in several lockers and drawers. A large well insulated "icebox" fitted with 12 volt refrigeration and a small freezer compartment. Cooking is managed off a new Force 10 gimbaled three burner propane stove with oven.
Opposite to starboard is the aft facing Navigation Station and seat with drawers and chart table with storage for chart kits and the conveniently located electrical distribution panels.
There are 102 total drawers, lockers, storage cubbies, custom shelves, and brackets, a place for everything, in the interior.
Since purchase in 2008, the current owner has done the following work which is more clearly enumerated in Additional/Refit Information in a section elsewhere in the listing.

Hull and Deck; ConstructionThe B-40's are all solid fiberglass hull construction, GOLD DUST being a Mark III version has a closed cell foam cored fiberglass deck. This improvement reduced weight in the boat by several hundred pounds reducing heeling and pitching moment and generally making the boat more comfortable to be on board in a seaway.
The hull was Awl gripped of white in 2005 and has been given multiple coats of Awlcare wax system each year and is in very good condition.
Fiberglass house and decks with molded in non-skid, varnished teak trim and stainless deck hardware.
Large cockpit long enough that one can sleep under the stars if so desired, deep sail/storage lockers P&S and large lazarette. Edson wheel steering. Wide side decks allow easy access fore and aft.

Additional; Refit ReviewThis Hinckley Bermuda 40 has received an amazing amount of refit and upgrade attention under current ownership. Shortly prior to the current owners acquisition the prior owner had Awl gripped the hull in 2005 and in 2007 installed an entire new waste system. Also about that time a new water heater was installed.
2008/09:

In addition to all of the above there are hundreds of minor pieces of equipment replaced that the owner has detailed in extensive maintenance records. In addition to all of this, the maintenance has been thoughtful and complete, e.g. alternate years servicing all the sea cocks, some years doing four coats of varnish versus two in order to keep nice depth.
The service managers and brokers, when visiting at the Hinckley yard in Southwest Harbor, Maine, have repeatedly told the owner she is in the top 10% of what they see in the iconic B-40 fleet.....need we say more?
