60' Mariner '78 "Ono"

Available now after long New Zealand travel shutdown due to Covid.

ONO has been imported into New Zealand, so easy to explore the fabulous New Zealand cruising grounds or head offshore to Tonga, Fiji, New Caledonia or Australia. An added bonus is that she is moored in Gulf Harbour on the Hauraki Gulf, within sight of the 2021 America's Cup course.

ONO was built by and for a group of engineers/scientists who worked for Tektronix, an electronics firm near Portland, Oregon. The design, called a Mariner 60, was a custom project by the noted naval architect Stan Huntingford (his production designs include the Cooper, Mapleleaf, and Passport series). Her interior joinery was created from black walnut harvested specifically for the project. The greatest care and precision were taken in all aspects of the construction. After a few years of use the original group dissolved and a series of owners cruised her extensively in the waters of the Pacific Northwest from Alaska to Mexico. The present owners purchased her for use as a private yacht and as a platform for marine research. The heavy construction, extended cruising range, spacious interior layout, and available storage made her ideal for the intended use. From 2000-2002 onboard systems were updated and modifications made by Legendary Yachts of Washougal, Washington. An improved rig design was provided by Robert Perry and the new custom chainplates were designed by Stan Huntingford. Since the refit she has been maintained to the highest standards and is ready for a new owner to sail off on new adventures anywhere on the globe. ONO needs to be seen to appreciate her unique features. Health issues are the prime reason for the sale.
