Accommodates six in a traditional layout with V-berth forward, settee berths in the salon and a large quarter berth that is comfortable for two aft. The boat was designed to be a comfortable offshore capable cruiser with excellent natural light and ventillation as evidenced by her 6 opening ports and 4 fixed ports along with two large hatches and two dorades. The interior is finished Herreshoff Style with varnished teak trim on white flat panels; the entine interior, including cabinets and lockers has been revarnished or painted under current ownership. The sole is varnished teak as well.
Starting forward is a large V-berth with filler below which there is storage in drawers and drop face lockers and in bin type stowage. Above the berth the hull is lined with varnished teak ceilings and there are storage shelves P&S as well. Aft of the starboard berth is a 3 drawer bureau with an additional locker with shelves outboard. Aft and to port are two large hanging lockers while opposite to starboard is the head with electric W.C. plumbed via Y valve to the holding tank, ensuite shower with separate sump, vanity with sink & H&C pressure water and good storage in several lockers and drawer.
Continuing aft is the Main Salon featuring settee berths P&S. Behind the seat backs there is storage as well as in varnished teak book shelves and lockers above. Fwd of the port berth is a 3 drawer bureau behind and above which there is a deep locker with shelves. Among the many other custom features that was done on this boat is the fold up style dining table which leaves the main cabin with plenty of elbow room when conveniently stowed but will comfortably seat 6 when set for dining.
Aft of the stbd settee is the Nav Station with flip up chart locker, vessels nav equipment, electrical panels and three drawers and other storage, followed by a double quarter berth with storage under and varnished teak ceilings above with a storage shelf.
Opposite to port is the U shaped galley with ample counter space, stainless steel sink with H&C pressure and manual water large well insulated ice box, 3 burner gimballed propane stove with oven and excellent storage.
The boat was originally built for an experienced yachtsman (and under Secretary of the Navy) who had a number of custom features built that are not found on other Allied 42 XLs.

Brand new and was yet to go onboard at the time of writing the listing including new North fully battened main, mizzen and 135% genoa. There are several older sails. The 42 XLs are very easy boats to sail with the traveller being located conveniently for the helmsman. With her centerboard configuration she can be balanced in virtually any breeze while still carrying a decent sail plan. Unlike other Allied 42's the centerboard pendant is run below the sole to the cockpit vs. through a standpipe in order to keep the main cabin feeling very open.

Hull & DeckSolid fiberglass hull Awlgripped Stars & Stripes Blue (Blue Gray)95', with a white boot top and gold cove stripe. Bottom was stripped and barrier coated in 2000 and is finished in a red ablative bottom paint. The Decks are partially cored fiberglass and are two tone with moondust nonskid on white. The decks were professionally painted with a single part epoxy finish in 2000. From experience this finish will easily last 7+ years.
A generous cockpit provides seating for up to six, large sail locker and lazarette. Edson pedestal steering with binnacle mount compass and binnacle guard. Wide side decks, double stainless steel bow and stern rails and stanchions with double lifeline with gates P&S. Exterior teak has been refinished under current ownership and is Cetoled, all in excellent condition.
