50' Custom Damien II Schooner

ââ?¬Å?INDIAââ?¬ï¿½, a Damien II, was launched in the spring of 1976. She was designed by world-class designer Michel Joubert who is well known for his off-shore designs. She was meticulously built by the famous META shipyard in France. Her hull has been constructed lapstrake and was designed to be pushed upwards in ice if she was ever to winter in high latitude areas. She is described with a round bilge, fin keel, and an external skewed rudder. Most Damien IIââ?¬â?¢s were built with pivoting keels which would allow them to venture into shallower water and to have the ability to be beached. With this option, those boats built with pivoting keels gave up performance. ââ?¬Å?Indiaââ?¬ï¿½, with her fin keel has far better upwind performance and stability. She is schooner rigged with short powerful masts and oversized rigging. She has been rigged for ease of handling in all conditions with minimal crew effort.
