Accommodations

A relaxing and functional interior make this an extremely comfortable boat for journeys of any duration. Almost every surface has been redone in the past few years and the end result is a comfortable yet low maintenance interior, consistent with the writings of Ed Monk. The forward spaces are traditional paint with varnish trim and the pilot house and saloon are all painted. New flooring has been laid throughout and most soft goods have also been refreshed.

The pilothouse is large and well lit with a large berth to port side with newer cushions. Industrial rubberized flooring makes for easy cleanup when maintenance takes place on the engines below, and also proves additional sound insulation. Sliding doors on either side of the pilothouse lead to the generous side decks. This space was freshly painted in ’13-’14. All windows in the pilot house were re-bedded, sliding doors were rebuilt as needed, and the headliner was also taken down, painted and reinstalled. Storage in this space is significant.

Aft of the pilothouse and down two steps is the main saloon. Large, with windows all around, this is an excellent place to spend an afternoon or evening at anchor. Newer cushions on the settee, which pulls out and converts to a double berth. Port side is the U shaped galley. Newer 12V/110V Norcold upright refrigerator/freezer, electric range, double sink. New tile countertop and loads of storage make this a very workable layout.

Finish is painted in this space and a new cabin sole was laid in ’13.

Starboard side is the day head. New tile countertop and floor. Newer plumbing and Vacuflush head.

Three hatches in the Main Saloon provide great access to mechanicals, bilges and storage.

The master stateroom is forward with a large berth, nearly a king. Hanging locker, numerous drawers, cabinet and shelving provide ample storage. Newly painted and varnished. Two sliding windows and overhead hatch provide good ventilation. Access to both forward bilge and chain locker from the forward stateroom.

Just aft on the port side is the master head. New tile counter and floor, sink, faucet and plumbing. Large stall shower with seat and teak grate. Newer Vacuflush head and plumbing. Walls painted with mahogany trim.

Starboard side is guest stateroom with two large bunks, ample drawer storage and a large hanging locker.

Staterooms and companion way have new carpet which is easily removable at the end of season or for access to hatches, as needed.

ENGINES

Twin Detroit Diesel 8V-53, 260HP ea. Both start and run perfectly.
Approximately 3250 hours, with 500 Hours since rebuild. Mated to Twin Disc transmissions.
Fresh water cooled. Heat exchangers, pulled and cleaned in ’14.
Exhaust is currently being upgraded to SS from engine to existing hoses aft of the raw water dump.
Engine block heaters for cold weather preheat.
Morse single lever controls run to both the Pilothouse helm and Flybridge.
Engine beds are heavily built of White Oak 2 3/8″ x 7″ x 7′ and in good condition.
Electric engine oil change system. Stainless drip pans below each engine keep the bilge clean.
Automatic Halon system in engine room.
Engines, as all mechanical systems on Bacchanal, have enjoyed consistent care and maintenance. Oil pressure and temperature well within spec.

Running Gear: Shafts (1 3/4″) were upgraded in ’05 to one piece Aquamet 22 (previously two piece shafts). Cutlass Bearings in very good condition. Bronze shaft logs, propellers, and nuts. Spare set of propellers on board.
Hydraulic steering with integrated auto pilot. Rudder Posts, Tiller Arms and Hydraulic steering all in very good condition.
Raytheon AutoPilot controls and rudder indicators in both Pilothouse and on flybridge.

Fuel Tankage: Two 175 gal aluminum tanks located below the aft cabin sole. Twin Racor primary filters. Fuel lines newer Gates brand. Fully USCG compliant installation.

ELECTRICAL

Substantially all wiring and breaker panels on the boat have been updated. Major wiring was replaced in ’02, with marine tin coated stock and feeders protected by inline block fusing. New battery switches, circuits and breaker panels at both the lower helm and flybridge, were installed. All engine circuits were rewired.

House Systems: Both 12V DC and 110V AC. Four 8D batteries, which rest in fiberglassed boxes, are wired in two sets (starting and house), in parallel. Two batteries new in ’14, two new in ’12.

Shore Power: 110V via 20A and 50A inputs on port and starboard sides. Heart Freedom 2000Watt inverter (new in ’99) and Link 2000 interface (new in ’00) both continue to provide good service.

Generator: Onan 8kw located in aft cockpit locker was rebuilt in 2000. Fresh water cooled with newer seawater strainer, seacock, hoses, battery switch and dedicated start battery. Good soundproofing, metallic Aqua Lift muffler in very good condition and oil drip pan. The generator has not been commissioned since ’12 and shows 2100 hours on the meter.

PLUMBING

Tankage: Two 100gal ea. S.S Potable Water Tanks are located below the aft cabin sole. 12gal Raritan hot water heater wired for 110 and also plumbed to port side engine heat exchanger.

Two 30 gal holding tanks, one plumbed to each head.

Sea Cocks & Thru Hulls: All replaced in ’02, all bronze, and all found to be in excellent condition at ’14 survey.

Water System Pumps: Newer domestic fresh water pump. Newer saltwater wash down pump. Groco seawater strainer and seacock, both bronze and new in ’02, provide seawater to both washdown and toilet pump.

Toilets: Two vacuflush toilets recently rebuilt. Two complete stand alone systems with separate holding tanks and deck pump-out. Newer saltwater pump for water supply. New odor proof sanitation hose.

Bilge Pumps: Four 3700 GPH bilge pumps located in four separate compartments for emergency use. Maintenance pump is 1100 GPH and located forward in the lowest part of the bilge.

ELECTRONICS

Lower helm: Raytheon VHF and Hailer, Raytheon 36 mile Radar, Sitex color sounder (’02), Datamarine depth and seppd. Neco Auto pilot with rudder indicator. Standard Horizon GPS/Plotter (’05), Ritchie Compass.

Flybridge: Datamarine depth, speed, temp. Neco autopilot slave, Raytheon video depth/fish finder new in ’02. Ritchie Compass. Circuit breaker panel in ’02 in helm cabinet with breakers for additional electronics.

HULL

Semi to full displacement, round bilge, raked stem and transom stern. Very pleasing hull shape and underbody, slight tumblehome.
Constructed of carvel double planking, with 5/8″ Philippine Mahogany over 1/2″ white cedar inner planking. Inner planking is back fastened to outer planking. Ribs are steam bent 2″ x 1 1/4″ white oak on 9″ centers. Floor timbers, keel, stringers and carlins are all substantial and in excellent condition and of either mahogany or white oak.

The hull is very fair and percussion testing of the bottom shows no signs of deterioration or grain delamination. Planking, seams and caulking are in excellent condition with no proud plank edges. There are no broken frames. No signs of galvanic corrosion of underwater fittings and the fasteners are in good and serviceable condition. Bacchanal spent the first part of her life on the Great Lakes and the fasteners are in much better condition than might otherwise be expected for a vessel of her age.

All trim is teak or white oak. Handrails and toerails are teak and were stripped, sealed and painted. Trim paint was last refreshed in ’13.

Topsides were sanded, faired and received two finish coats of paint in the spring of ’14.

Bilges have been throughly cleaned and the boat is tight and dry.

CABIN HOUSE & FLYBRIDGE

Cabin and super structure all in excellent condition. Any areas requiring attention were addressed in spring of ’14 and all cabin exterior surfaces were painted. Cabin Sides are solid mahogany of 1 1/8″ thickness. Cabin Top is fiberglass over marine ply. Flybridge, helm and cabin top were all painted in spring ’14.

Flybridge is spacious with ample seating. False stack with bowmar hatch provides engine ventilation and substantial rope locker. All canvas including full bimini top and cover, helm cover, and lee cloths (not shown) for flybrige are new in the last 3 years. The exterior canvas covers on the pilot house windows are also new.

DECKS & EXTERIOR

Vertical grain teak over marine ply, set in bedding compound. Weathered gray, roughly 1″ thick and in excellent condition.

Walk around access, stern cockpit, transom door, generous swim/boarding platform across stern. Port side salon roof space for large tender with davit and newer electric winch.

ANCHORING SYSTEM

A new anchoring system was designed and installed in ’02 and works very well. Laminated 4′ solid wood platform with a 2′ overhang. Double s/s bow rollers welded together for extra strength, Lofrans electric windlass. Primary rode is 200′ 3/8″ Acco HT chain, chain feed to locker. Stainless custom mooring bit, large stainless chocks on toe rail. 65lb CQR with stainless swivel, on deck anchor washdown. Also two danforth anchors stowed on deck with chain pipes to locker.

Anchoring out and retrieval is easy with this heavy ground tackle system and good foredeck access.
