Accommodations
Beginning forward is the spacious and well conceived owners stateroom. The V berth features plenty of "toe space" and with filler inserted makes a double of very generous proportion. Storage is maximized with abundant shelves, lockers, drawers and a bureau, plus a private head/shower.
Aft, in the main salon, all surfaces are done in satin finished cherry. The solid cherry centerline drop-leaf table seats six easily, yet allows enough space fore and aft that you and your guests are always able to get up and move around during a meal.
Port and starboard settees are excellent sea berths and feature storage behind the back cushions as well as in the cherry lockers and book shelves outboard. Nestled between the starboard settee cabinets is a custom entertainment center with 15" LCD TV screen and DVD player. A Follow Meââ??¢ satellite antenna with remote brings in a clear picture.
The galley is located aft and to port and is fully optimized for comfortable and safe cooking at anchor or offshore. Highly polished deep double sinks on the centerline, plenty of drawer and locker space, an ingenious cooks seat, a well insulated refrigerator with Sea Frost DC refrigeration, custom-installed microwave and a Force 10 three burner stove with oven and broiler.
Further aft and to port is the guest head/shower with a spacious wet locker outboard. The location and design of this head maximizes the privacy of the owner and guests as well as keeping the wet gear and bodies out of the main salon when the weather is less than perfect.
Aft and to starboard is the forward facing sit down navigation station with a full size chart table with abundant storage as well as a large bin outboard, pencil and eyeglass holder. AC and DC distribution panel are located aft and outboard. Navigators goose neck light completes this area.
Aft of the nav station is the aft stateroom. It features a small settee, a large double berth, plus three opening ports and one hatch for ventilation and light. Also complementing the layout is a bureau with locker and drawers and a hanging locker.
Sails and Rig
Harmony has it all. Electric winch, Leisure Furl boom for the mainsail, and a carbon fiber mast is the ultimate combination for good seakeeping and control in any conditions. Like many J/42s, her headsail inventory includes only a 100% North Spectra Furling Jib. With this combination, tacking rarely includes grinding in the sheet, visibility is superlative and there's no need to reef in up to 25 knots of breeze. It's all about keeping the cruising experience simple, safe and stress free.
The Leisure Furl boom provides what is regarded as the easiest and most efficient method of metering sail area. Those that have used this system swear they'll never go back to conventional methods.
The carbon fiber mast dramatically increases righting moment and stability by reducing pitching caused by weight aloft.
The North sail inventory is augmented by a 1.5 oz True Radial Asymmetric Gennaker with snuffer, plus the North Spectra fully battened mainsail.
Cockpit
The J/42 cockpit is designed for easy single or short handed operation. All lines lead to the cockpit and all sheets and the main traveller are within easy reach of the helmsman. The helm is extremely well balanced giving excellent control and maneuverability. The J/42 really puts the fun back in sailing while reducing helmsman and crew fatigue to a minimum.
All six winches are chrome, self tailing two speed, with the port primary winch having been upgraded to electric to make raising the main, furling the jib and a host of other tasks almost effortless.
The storage capacity of the J/42 cockpit surpasses that of most 50 footers. There is a port side cockpit locker that is cavernous in depth and length. Aft of that is the propane locker with two 10 lb tanks, solenoid and overboard drain. Further aft is a locker with overboard drain that can easily accommodate a liferaft, or serve as the fleet's largest cooler. Also incorporated in the aft deck is a spacious starboard locker which also provides excellent access to the steering gear. A stern gate and boarding/swim ladder completes the aft deck layout.
A dodger with bimini and connector upgraded with premium Weblonââ??¢ fabric in 2003 keeps the crew warm and happy in all conditions.

MechanicalWhile sailing a J/42 is a dream, under power she is just as impressive. Her low hours Yanmar diesel turning a three bladed Max Prop will smoothly cruise at 7.75 knots and 1.1 gph. Dual aluminum fuel tanks with a 60 gallon capacity give her a range under power of over 450 miles without the need of jerry cans on deck.
Anchoring is facilitated by a Lewmar Ocean series electric windlass that neatly places the chain and rode in a self draining anchor locker forward. The windlass may also serve double duty to hoist crew aloft in the bosuns chair.
Hull & DeckThe hull is white with a double blue boot and single blue cove stripe. Deck is white with gray nonskid. Hull and deck are made with the highly regarded SCRIMP process that triples the normal vacuum bagging levels to eliminate voids and produce a much stronger hull than conventional techniques. A maintenance free toerail and handrail ensure that your free time is spent sailing rather than sanding.
There are five opening deck hatches and 11 opening ports as well as two dorade boxes with dual vents to maximize ventilation and light below decks.
Stainless steel radar mast is located aft with outboard motor lifting boom and tackle. The stern features Edson custom dinghy davits.
