Accommodations & Layout
INDIGO has a very spacious cabin arrangement. This boat because of her additional beam has far more volume below than the earlier Sabre 38 MKI. As a matter of fact most people think that the layout in the 38 MKII is superior to her slightly larger and newer sistership the Sabre 402.
Beginning forward INDIGO has a large anchor rode storage locker that is accessible only from the deck. Just aft of the forepeak locker is the forward stateroom, which in this layout is considered by most people to be the owners stateroom. This forward stateroom features a large V-berth with shelves over it and four drawers underneath the V-berth. Just aft of the V-berth on the port side there is a locker and seat with a separate sink and mirror. This allows someone to shave or brush their teeth, etc. while someone else is using the main head.
Immediately aft of forward stateroom is the main cabin. This area features a large L-shaped settee to port with lockers and storage area above and outboard of the settee. On the forward bulkhead is a large two-leaf table that folds up and away when not in use. However when lowered the table assumes two positions. One, which makes the L-shaped settee into a dinette with the right hand leaf in the down position. However when it comes time for dining that leaf folds up making a very large table. Of course the big plus is when neither is needed the table is totally out of the way and the main cabin seems much bigger than any boat where a permanent table is located on the centerline. On the starboard side we have a large straight settee with two lockers above and outboard as well as a bookcase in the middle.
Immediately aft of the starboard settee is the aft facing nav station, which features a large nav desk, the main electrical panel and an area for installation of all the electronics. There are also four drawers for storage under the nav desk and additional storage under nav seat.
Opposite the nav station on port side is a very large L-shaped galley. The double stainless steel sinks are located on the forward facing counter of the galley. The refrigerator is located further outboard to port and the stove is in the aft outboard section of the galley. The countertops in the galley are white Formica. There is additional storage outboard of the galley and below countertops. The sink has pressure hot and cold water plus a hand pump.
The companionway to the cockpit is located on the centerline and comes directly down from the cockpit into the galley area. To the left of the companionway, just aft of the galley counter is the entrance to the aft quarterberth stateroom. This stateroom features a very large queen size berth. There are storage compartments located above the berth and outboard on the port side. There is also a small dresser and a locker at the very forward end of the berth on the port side. There is an opening port in the cockpit well area that opens in the quarterberth stateroom for added ventilation.
On the starboard side of the companionway there is a large main head. This is an extremely large head for a 38-foot boat. There is a good size sink. There is a significant counter area outboard of head and sink and there is a shower area immediately aft of head. The entire head compartment is a fiberglass unit and there is a teak grate at the base of the floor for drainage to the shower sump pump.
The Sabre 38 MKII has very good light and ventilation below decks. There are six opening ports in the trunk cabin and two large hatches on top of the trunk cabin. There are also two large fixed ports at the aft end of the trunk cabin on each side, which provide additional light into this cabin.
The teak joinerwork on the interior of INDIGO was custom ordered and is lighter in tone than most any other Sabre 38 that we have seen. This of course makes the boat brighter and more airy inside. The finish is satin varnish. The cabin sole is also a satin finished teak and holly. INDIGOS interior provides spacious accommodations and comfortable cruising for five to six people yet the vessel is easily handled by just a couple.

CommentsINDIGO, with her striking flag blue hull, gold cove stripe, double white boottop, green bottom and matter horn white awlgripped spar is probably the nicest Sabre 38II this office has ever seen. This owner (3rd) like the 2 previous owners has given INDIGO tender loving care. She has been maintained with an open checkbook. She has had only summer use (4-5 months) in New England and she has spent her last 7 winters inside a heated shed! For anyone who knows and appreciates these boats, we are certain that they will be both impressed and excited by all the extras and the overall condition of INDIGO.
This yacht has been fully commissioned and she is ready for a great summer of cruising and or day sailing.
