The PowerBoat Guide had this to say:

The 381 Catalina Double Cabin is an enlarged version of the very popular 350 Catalina introduced by Chris Craft a few years earlier. Built on a solid fiberglass, low deadrise hull with a relatively wide beam, the 381 has an enormous interior for her size as well as a small but family friendly helm/aft deck platform. Her galley up accommodation's include two roomy staterooms, stall shower enclosures in both heads, adequate storage and full walk-around decks--not bad for a 38-foot cruiser. (Note that a walk-around queen bed in the master stateroom became standard in 1983.) A lower helm was never offered because the front windshield area is fiberglassed over to provide fordeck seating. Topside, the helm is level with the aft deck, so the helmsman isn't separated from the passengers. Additional features include a roomy engine room accessed via hatches in the salon sole, a bow pulpit and a swim platform.
