The Freedom 35 took shape on the screens at Pedrick Yacht Designs. To fulfill the mandate of a versatile, fast yacht, they chose a moderate displacement hull, allowed enough volume for full interior comfort, and gave her ample stability to deliver a well controlled ride in light air or in a blow. So that - under sail or power - she could turn on a dime, the naval architects drew a hydrodynamic rudder hung from a carbon fiber post (pound for pound, carbon fiber is three and a half times stronger than aluminum and is not subject to corrosion or electrolysis); to drive this performance platform, the designers increased the foretriangle of Freedom's proven, freestanding sloop rig. It couldn't be simpler or more safe: no shrouds or backstay to fuss with, no turnbuckles to maintain, just a simple spar proven much safer than conventional stayed masts - and guaranteed to the buyer for life.
Other features on the Freedom 35 include improved access to the crankcase, color-coded wiring, a swim platform on the stern, and a bearing system that puts a live, organic feel in the hands of the helmsman. The helm has sportscar-like responsiveness and a deep, T-shaped cockpit allows for an oversized Edson wheel. The wheel brake, safety guard, compass, and engine controls are all mounted on the pedestal - and for easy shorthanded maneuvering, the engine gauges, key, starter button, and kill switch are close by to starboard on a recessed panel. A raised coaming provides protection from the elements and a comfy backrest when at anchor.
Hand-fit wood panels and trim encompasses an open, well-ventilated (five hatch) main saloon. The companionway leads forward with 6-foot, 2-inch headroom along a bright teak and holly sole. To port, an L-shaped settee and drop-down table accommodates a crowd for dinner or a night of tale telling. Outboard, ample stowage has been created and tastefully concealed behind louvered doors. To starboard, there is a single settee and a generous shelf.
AccommodationsWith multiple boarding gates, including one on the Starboard Foredeck, this 1996 Freedom 35 Sloop can be boarded from the sugar-scoop walk-through transom, or from either side deck. The T-Shaped Cockpit with Bimini & Dodger, 2015 Stratoglass windshield and Sunbrella protective Windshield Cover, features a Connecting Sunbrella section that provides great protection from the sun or rain. The bright, airy cabin with Satin Varnished Cherry Cabinetry with louvred cabinets, is accessed via the companionway by just three easy steps set at a low angle.
Vesper sleeps seven in two private staterooms and salon, and her large Head to Starboard, at the bottom of the stairs features a stall shower, vanity with sink, manual Raritan toilet (with new hoses), and plenty of storage. Aft to Port in the Main Cabin is the L-shaped Galley with a 2-burner Eno SS gimbaled propane Stove & Oven, dual compartment, top-loading, well-insulated Refrigerator & Beverage bin with water-cooled Frigoboat 12V refrigeration, deep SS sink, H/C pressure water, and plenty of storage below the sink and counters, plus 3 additional drawers below the Nav Table to Starboard and forward of the Head. Aft of the Galley is the private Aft Stateroom with an athwartships double berth, hanging locker, shelves, and additional storage on the Port side.
Forward of the Galley the Salon features an L-shaped settee that converts to a double berth, with forward bulkhead-mounted folding Cherry table to Port. The Yanmar Diesel Engine is conveniently located in the middle of the boat under the aft settee and partially extends under the Galley Sink. Access to all serviceable parts of the engine, transmission and raw water strainer is excellent. A 6'+ Settee with storage under and behind the cushions, plus louvered Cherry Cabinets outboard and above the setees on both sides. The AGM batteries are located under the Starboard aft settee and tankage is under some of the Port Settees near the midddle of the boat adjacent to the engine, contributing to the excellent Center of Gravity. All interior lights are LED. Nine SS opening ports with screens and curtains and five deck hatches with screens and OceanView retractable Shades are distributed throughout the boat. Varnished Teak & Holley flooring adds to the richness of the interior and is nicely complemented by the quality fabrics throughout this yacht.
Forward and offset to Starboard is the pocket door entrance to the Forward Stateroom with a large double V-berth with filler and storage under it, a louvered Cherry hanging locker and shelves aft to Port and a louvered Cherry Cabinet with interior shelves to Starboard. The hull is lined with varnished Cherry wood paneling, aestestically pleasing, and functionally providing sound and environmental insulation. Forward of the V-Berth is a large dry storage compartment, accessed behind a Cherry cabinet door.
