Boat Highlights, Details & Specs
Background on Bristol Yachts
Bristol Yacht Co. was founded in 1966 by sailboat builder Clint Pearson. The first offering was a Carl Alberg design, the Bristol 27, and it set a trend for success. A fleet of other sailboats followed during the next 30 years from such designers as Halsey Herreshoff, Ted Hood and Dieter Empacher. The 42 Offshore was the company’s first venture into the powerboat market, and it enjoyed a successful production run into the 1980s. Bristol Yacht closed in 1997 after building more than 4,000 sailboats and powerboats. The 42 Offshore remains popular in the used-boat market, and prices range from less than $100,000 to as much as $170,000, based more on the boat’s condition and extras than age.
Walkthrough
The Bristol 42 Offshore has the sturdy, seaworthy look of a traditional trawler with its high sides, big bow and deck house. It sleeps four in two cabins and has flybridge and inside helm stations. There’s seating on the flybridge and on the aft cabin top. Wide side decks all around make for safe access and easy line and fender handling.
The layout below is centered on the two cabins, each with its own head. The forward cabin has a V-berth with the head compartment to port and a hanging locker opposite. Moving aft is the Salon and lower helm station, galley with full refrigerator along with a stainless steel sink and good counter space. Aft to starboard in the salon is a fixed settee and aft to port is a desk/nav/work area.
The lower helm station is to Starboard in the saloon with full controls. The saloon features an L-shaped settee. The salon sole has been recently refinished and varnished as well as the salon ceiling. (see Owner's Comments) The master stateroom aft is outfitted with double berths to port and starboard and a full head with a separate shower along with a hanging locker and drawer storage. in between the two berths.
There are two cabins, each with its own head, separated by the length of the boat for privacy. “The aft cabin also makes for an easier climb to the flybridge than the steep ladders found on many The deck extends all around the pilothouse to make line handling easier and safer, and the aft cockpit makes for easy access to the swim platform. “There are entry doors to lower helm and salon from both the port and starboard side so docklines can be handled easily when single-handed.
Notes and Comments from the Owners of the Boat
From the Sellers:
"The vessel is totally sound and ready to cruise. The bottom was painted in November 2016 with three coats of Ultima ablative bottom coating. The engines have been rebuilt (48 hours and 10 hours ago). The genset has been totally rebuilt (10 hours use ago) as well as the starboard gear (48 Hours use ago)
The vessel features handmade brightwork both interior and exterior. Exterior brightwork has been finished with23 coats of AwlGrip. Cabin sole is hard maple. Overhead Hardtop is hard wooden maple with red oak cross beams… again totally hand made and the vessels solar panels will be remounted overhead. The vessel features a solid Khaya and Sapele custom built Hardtop with Native Florida Cypress planks. This results in a bridge deck which could easily be totally enclosed and air conditioned resulting in an entire extra climate controlled cabin. The owner is well schooled in sound principles of marine engineering. The entire weight of the topper is less than 300 lbs. There are 1100 lbs. of lead and zinc in the vessel’s keel to counterbalance the topper so it will not adversely affect the stability of the vessel.
This is the perfect vessel for visiting the Bahamas or doing the Great Loop. She is a spectacularly comfortable liveaboard. Under way at cruising speed she burns only 1.5 (that’s right… ONE AND A HALF) gallons per hour. That is almost as little as your family sedan!
A new trawler yacht of this size sells for at least a half million dollars. Better grab this one while you can, make your own improvements and save Hundreds of Thousands…"
