Overview
The Kadey Krogen 55 Expedition is, without a doubt, one of the best constructed and well planned bluewater boats available. However an equal amount of planning and design is invested to make her a comfortable home for your travels.
She is heavily constructed with layers of Aramid (Kevlar) a full displacement hull with a wine-glass transom, low weight ratios, lead keel, protective skegs, and a fine entry and high bows. She has Five watertight crash bulkheads sealed with freeman doors which not only provide safety but ease of operation and maintenance as the engine room and machinery spaces are separated.
In her design, her full beam interior gives her the interior space of a 70 plus footer. This interior is divided such as to dedicate a large percentage of her volume to the saloon, galley, and covered aft and upper decks. She is therefore an elegant waterfront home where we live indoors and out in the living room, kitchen and back porch.
If you are serious about cruising, this is a very serious little ship. If you also would like to feel at home during your travels, you have a very narrow target and the Krogen 55 fits it perfectly.
Walk Through
Boarding from the stern into the Aft Cockpit. The upper boat deck is completely extended to the rails, with rain diverters, so as to cover the cockpit for protection from sun and rain. The cockpit is considerably larger than other cruisers of this size. There is a built-in bar with storage, sink, and a Raritan Icemaker. Hot and cold shower in transom. The swim platform has ladder and large stainless protective rails which are removable.
From the cockpit you enter the Saloon via two large watertight freeman aluminum doors. The doorway also has a ghost screen to keep the bugs out and let the fresh air in.
Salon
The saloon is truly expansive stretching the entire 18 foot plus beam of the boat. The interior of the boat is handcrafted, solid American cherry with a light natural stain creating a very bright interior. To port is a large wraparound, built-in settee with an electric lift 60 inch HDTV. To starboard are two recliners, large storage cabinets and a bar with 40 bottle wine chiller refrigerator. There is a Bose surround sound system with outlets and controls in every room and space of the boat including the cockpit and upper deck. The configuration of the Galley is such that this is a great social area that does not exclude the cook.
Galley
The galley on this yacht is a kitchen that any professional chef would approve. Separated from the salon by a large granite countertop, the galley includes a Mele dishwasher, a trash compactor, an oversized stainless Jenaire refrigerator freezer, convection oven/microwave, and as the centerpiece a true commercial Viking gas oven and range.
Note that the Krogen, designed for long-range cruising, devotes more of its interior space to the living areas of galley, salon and cockpit than a weekend motoryacht.

Engine Room & Machinery
The engine spaces on this boat are just amazing.
There are six separate watertight machinery spaces below decks. Each separated by a watertight freeman door built into the crash bulkheads. The forward compartment is access to the bow thruster hydraulics and tube. Aft of this compartment is the battery room, isolated from the heat of the engines. The next compartment aft is the workspace and tank room. These spaces are air-conditioned! There is an additional Frigibar chest deep-freeze here as well. There is a workbench with wet plumbed sink and access to the chilled water AC. Access is easy for fuel filters, fuel manifold and water maker and stabilizers. The fuel manifold also controls access to the ESI fuel polishing system with both filter and ultraviolet cleaning Almost everything on the boat can be checked, operated, and maintained without having to actually enter the heat of the engine space. The water maker is a Spectra Newport 700 MK2 model. Access is amazing, and all pumps lines and through hulls are marked and labeled. Proceeding aft is the engine space which houses the twin John Deere, continuous duty 6068 model engines. Also in this space is access to the hydraulic manifold and reservoir, the twin Glendenning power cords and the 16 KW Northern Lights generator.
