VESSEL WALK THROUGH:From the port or starboard boarding gates you step onto the 43 DS. The wide side decks make maneuverability a breeze. The cockpit has Bimini, dodger, connector and Isinglass panels. The cockpit offers large port and starboard settees with storage lazarette under the seats and an elevated custom helm seat with excellent visibility. The companionway bi-fold door is louvered and the hatch slides forward. After stepping down six curved teaks steps of the companionway ladder you enter the bright and elegant interior. Bulkheads and grab rails on either side of the companionway provide safe handholds. Interior joinery is of varnished teak with abundant solid wood trim and teak veneered plywood. The overhead is white vinyl and fiberglass panels. The cabin soles are teak and holly plywood. Ample overhead opening hatches, with Ocean-Air shades, opening cabin ports, fixed hull side ports and fixed windows provide an amazing amount of natural light and ventilation. Overhead lights, reading and task lights are fitted throughout the interior as are the 12 volts and 220 volt receptacles. The upholstery is tasteful blue fabric with gold accents. All overhead hatches are fitted with Ocean-Air pull out blinds. All ports and the deck salon fixed windows are fitted with beige pleated curtains Headroom in the 43 DS is 6” 5” through most of the interior. The raised salon, aft cockpit arrangement has numerous benefits and features. Most striking are the views from the salon/galley area to the outside. The raised dinette has direct sight lines to the horizon while seated. An onboard chef working in the galley can easily enjoy views of the harbor or ocean while preparing meals or snacks. This is a three stateroom model that can be converted to a two stateroom model by removing the middle bulkhead in the aft cabin. The Jeanneau does offer a conversion kit to change the forward cabin into a double as well, making the 43 DS a four stateroom yacht. Each of the aft cabins is a mirror image of the other with the private entrance to the head in the port side. The forward V-berth is large with a private head with mirrored vanity, manual toilet and ensuite shower. There are outboard bookshelves that run along both the port and starboard sides, and storage. Along the starboard side is a small settee with under seat storage, aft bulkhead has a mirrored vanity, and a hanging locker currently arranged with shelving. Overhead there is a hatch with the Ocean-Air system and fixed ports forward. Through the entry door heading aft and up one step is the main cabin. The raised dinette is to starboard and two raised seats with a centered opening table which can also be used as the navigation station. Aft and along the starboard side is the “L” shaped galley. The galley has ample storage cabinets and dry stores in the flooring. Access into the aft cabins is through a door on either the starboard or port side. Each side becomes a double berth with mirrored images of each other. |
Forward Cabin The forward V-berth measures 6’ 5” long by 4’ 8” wide. Aft and under the berth is the forward water tank. Further aft is a large top opening storage bin. A large overhead hatch and two fixed hull side ports allow for light and ventilation. Two overhead lights and two reading lamps illuminate the cabin at night. A privacy door with locking chrome handle divides the cabin from the main salon passageway. A large hanging is located along with a nice mirrored vanity with storage cabinets above and a storage area below. There is also a small dressing settee along the starboard side. |
Forward Head The forward head is to port and entered via a teak door with locking handle. The head toilet is a manual Jabsco pump toilet. A stainless steel oval sink is molded into a Corian countertop with teak fiddle. A single lever stainless steel faucet mixes the hot and cold water. A pull out shower nozzle and holder allow showering in this space and an electric drain will remove the shower water overboard. A split mirror outboard and above the sink is perfectly angled for shaving and make-up. Storage is located beneath the sink and in a cabinet outboard of the head. An overhead light, over the sink bar light, and the 120 volt chrome outlet is GFI protected. A small overhead hatch and heater outlet will easily ventilate the head. Three chrome hooks and one towel ring are secured to the bulkheads. |
Raised Salon The raised salon is filled with natural light and a pleasant alternative to the usual sailboat interior. The raised dinette to starboard sits atop a platform that allows one to see directly outside through the salon windows. The table base is wide and offers excellent support and added storage. The dinette is large enough to sit 6 adults for a lovely prepared meal or snack. The settee cushions are sculpted for comfort while seated. Storage bins are located under the settee, beneath the dinette platform, in the forward bilge and outboard of the settee in four hinged cabinets. To port is also a raised platform with two bolstered seats facing fore and aft with a nice navigation or office desk separating them. The desk top opens for storage of charts or office tools. A bookshelf is forward and outboard of the forward seat and the electrical panel/communication board is outboard of the aft seat. Large storage cabinets are under each seat and make an excellent place for onboard liquor. Beneath the forward salon sole is access to the bilge with a removable, self-draining, storage bin. A tinted glass partition etched with the Jeanneau name provides definitive yet subtle separation between the galley and salon. The “L” shaped galley is open, airy and well suited to the task of meal preparation, clean up and food storage. The countertops are tasteful laminate surrounded by low teak fiddles. Starting forward and inboard is a double stainless steel sink measuring 13 x 12 and 6 inches deep and 9 x 12 x 6 inches deep. Sink covers with matching laminate are provided. The large sink covers can be reversed to reveal a round, white plastic, cutting board. Beneath the sink is a chest with four sliding plastic drawers and cleaning gear storage on two shelves. A round trash bin is mounted on the cabinet door. Forward and outboard is a large top loading storage bin, now fitted with a dish rack. The top loading 2.6 cubic foot refrigerator and the front loading 5.0 cubic foot refrigerator are next and aft. The front loading door is stainless steel. Three hinged-front cabinets are outboard of the countertop beneath the deck edge. The gimbaled, two burner, propane Eno Stove and oven are all the way aft and outboard. Above the stove and outboard is a built in Emerson microwave oven. A roll-away stove cover slides and stores behind the stove. A Xintex propane solenoid switch and 120 volt outlet are adjacent to the stove. Four plastic lift out storage bins are located below the hinged galley sole for additional dry storage. To port of the companionway is the aft head with a separate shower stall. Privacy doors with locking handles allow entrance from the salon or from inside the aft cabin. The head is electric with maceration before the holding tank. Forward is the spacious and bright stall shower separated from the head by a tinted acrylic door and partition with chrome hardware. A single lever shower mixer valve, hose, and nozzle mount allow stand up or sit down showering. A fold down white plastic seat is outboard and forward. A small opening overhead hatch is used to ventilate while showering. Outboard and forward of the head is a vanity with oval shaped stainless steel sink hung below a Corian counter. A single lever faucet mixes and dispenses the hot water. Outboard of the sink is a mirror angled for easy vision while shaving. A small toiletries cabinet is behind the mirror. Additional storage is beneath the sink and a in a teak storage cabinet outboard of the head. A total of five hooks and one towel bar and secured to the bulkheads. |
Aft Cabin
The aft cabins are entered via port and starboard teak doors with chrome finished locking handles. Just inside the doors is a small step down to the cabin sole. Headroom in the full beam cabin is impressive and well over 6 ft 5 inches. Standing areas are located below cockpit coamings and the bridge deck. . Presently a separation panel is used to divide the area into two separate cabins but can be easily removed. Dressing settees with matching fabrics are outboard on each side of the staterooms. Wide, over/under shelf storage is outboard of the berth along the hull sides. There are 2 top opening storage bins are located in the lower shelf of each cabin House batteries are located forward and under the Port berth. Forward and outboard in each cabin are cabin wardrobe lockers with shelves and hanging spaces

HULL and DECKThe transom, deck, cockpit and cabin sides are white gelcoat. An aluminum Goiot toe rail/rub rail with teak rub strip surrounds the deck. Non-skid is molded into the deck areas where traction is appreciated. Teak and rubber inlay is found on the cockpit seats, cockpit sole, and swim step. This is a deck salon and the large near-vertical salon windows provide excellent visibility from the galley and salon. The salon windows are tinted acrylic, set into strong mullions and sheltered on top by an overhanging visor. Abundant deck hatches and ports are well placed for light and ventilation. Ample storage on deck is located in a large, top-opening (and self-draining) bow locker storage/anchor locker, two cockpit lockers and a transom locker.
She has a practical and attractive stern. The scoop stern incorporates a wide swim step and hard plastic protective strip around the transom to hull joint. The swim step makes boarding from dinghy, low dock, or the water extremely easy. A walk-through door to starboard of centerline in the transom allows one to access the cockpit with one easy step. A cockpit seat insert fills this walk through and cleverly lowers to make a step when desired. A large locker with locking door is inset into the transom; an ideal location for life raft, snorkel gear, cleaning gear, or trash when cruising. A stern shower with hot and cold fresh water located at the transom allows crew to rinse salt and sand off before tracking it into the cockpit, deck and interior. A dedicated, top-opening shore power cord locker is located in the port quarter.
The design team for the Jeanneau 43DS deserves praise for such a detailed, functional and comfortable cockpit. The cockpit is well protected by side coamings and the cabin top. Seat backs are high and comfortably angled. Inlaid teak and rubber on the settees and sole contrast nicely with the white gelcoat and provide excellent non-skid. A custom helm seat looks beautiful and is fully functional. A fixed folding cockpit table with drop leafs and self-draining storage nicely divides the wide cockpit. The table has a top opening storage bin inside and with the leaves raised will nicely dine four. The steering pedestal provides a nice location for navigation and communications instruments. Steering wheel size and placement allow one to easily walk around the wheel yet sit far enough outboard for visibility while sailing. Primary winches are placed within reach of the helmsman. Settee backs and tops open wide to port and starboard accessing the two cockpit lockers. A dedicated propane locker is aft and two starboard and has space for two large aluminum propane bottles. When you open the propane locker there is a custom made area for the helm electronic covers.
