Boat Details in A Nutshell
Main Engine- Lugger Diesel, 6 cylinder naturally aspirated, non- electronic controls, 3900 hours, 135hp, keel cooled, dry stack exhaust. Fuel consumption 1&1/2 gph.at 1450 rpm( 6.5 knots)
Transmission -Twin disc 3:1 reduction, 2&1/2" dia. Aquamet 22 shaft, 30X23 three blade prop.
Get Home Engine- Yanmar Diesel , 2 cylinder, 16 hp, with sail drive and folding prop protected by a skeg.
Fuel Storage- 6 storage tanks and 2 day tanks, fuel polishing system for stored fuel and fuel is triple filtered before reaching engines. Total fuel storage capacity of 1250 U.S. gallons ( range of 5000 NM at cruising speed). Storage tanks have top access clean out plates and provided with sight gauges.
Construction- Steel hull. Bottom of keel is 1&1/2" steel. Vertical sections of keel are 1/2" steel, Bottom is 5/16" steel up to chine and sides and top are 1/4" steel. Pilot house is 3/8" Aluminum. Windows are heavy duty tempered glass. 25 mm forward and 17 mm sides and rear. Portlights ( 21 total) are 1/2" glass with steel storm plates. There are 4 water tight steel bulkheads and a water tight entry door into the engine room. Intakes and exhausts for engine room combustion and cooling air are screened and insect screens are provided for adjustable pilot house windows and port lights.
Hydraulic System- Two variable displacement hydraulic pumps operate off the main engine to power 4 existing loads; The forward windlass is a 4000 lb Muir, the after windlass is a 2500 Lb. Muir windlass, the bow thruster is a 15 hp. Key Power unit and there is a emergency Fire fighting and high capacity bilge pump. There is a hydraulic driven
Cruising Generator ( 30 Amp @ 120 V) on board for future connection. An hyd. storage tank with heat exchanger, sight glass and filter is provided in the main engine room. System design provides for load sensing for fuel efficient operation of the main engine.
Electrical- Batteries are Lifeline AGM ( replaced 2 years ago). House bank has 5 - 255 A-hr 12 Volt batteries and a 255 A-hr Start Battery. A battery bank combiner. A Pro Sine 3 kW inverter-charger, 10 solar panels and a wind generator are installed. An isolation transformer

Electronics- Two radars, Two VHF radios, one High frequency single side band radio,Two depth finders, 2 GPS units, a Pactor II modem, Davis wind instrument, a 10 CD player, Four AM/FM/CD radios, a Satellite weather receiver, a sat phone and an EPRIB unit. Navigation is Nobeltech with World map set ( 33,000 maps). A wireless AIS receiver and tuned antenna are installed.
Steering- hydraulic steering with Comnav 1001 Autopilot. Manual steering available with emergency tiller.
Ground Tackle- 110 lb Delta main anchor with 375 ' of 1/2 " HT chain, 40lb Dansforth with 50' of 1/2" HT chain and 375 ' of Dacron rope rode,and a 60 lb Bruce stern anchor with 250' of rope rode.
Dingy- A custom made 12.5' aluminum RIB with a 30 hp. Honda 4 stroke outboard carried on davits.
Staterooms and Heads- forward stateroom has bunk berths, after stateroom has queen berth. Forward head has sink, after head has sink and shower. Heads are salt water type and have holding tanks with mascerator pumps and deck pump out fittings. Shower sumps with pumps are provided fore and aft. Combo Washer dryer in fwd stateroom.
Galley Equipment- Propane cooktop and oven, Propane oven new in 2015 (installed but not hooked up),arge built in refrigerator with holding plate and back up refrigerator plant,, large built in top loading freezer with holding plate, microwave oven, double Stainless steel sink, twin 20 lb propane tanks stored in outside lockers. An ice maker ( 120 V AC) is installed.
Fresh Water- 180 gallon SS storage tank. 80 gallon/ day 12V PUR water maker. Hot water heater can be heated from electric heater or from diesel furnace. A fresh water triple filter with UV unit is provided for taking on fresh water. Fresh water supply is provided via an automatic pump to sinks and shower in heads and to the galley sink and
Ice maker.
Air Conditioner and Heating Plant - AC is an air cooled 120 V , 13,000 BTU/ hr unit on the top of the pilot house. Heating is provided by a diesel furnace with hydronic heating units,fans and Thermostats in staterooms,heads,Solon/galley and pilot house.
Stabilization System- Slow Dance is outfitted with passive stabilizers ( flopper stoppers) for Use underway and also has units for use at anchor.
Lighting- Interior lighting is provided by 50 - 12V fluorescent fixtures, a controllable search light Is mounted on the pilot house, LED spreader lights, LED port and starboard running lights ,masthead and stern light and conventional anchor light.
Compressed Air- A 3/4 hp oilless compressor, an air horn with auto control unit,hoses and air tools are provided.
Fire Protection- Three portable extinguishers, a 50 lb CO2 manually activated system for the engine room and 2 - 25 foot quick connect fire hoses are provided for connection to the hydraulic driven emergency bilge and fire fighting pump. A fire alarm system is provided for the engine room.
Salt Water System- Salt water is provided via a strainer and distributed to 5 loads; the water maker the galley sink( electric pump) , a top side wash down pump and both heads.
Safety - 4 person open ocean life raft, sea anchor, safety harness and adult and children life preservers
Canvas covers - covers for fore and aft decks are provided.
Spare Parts- An extensive list of spare parts is provided for engines, pumps,filters and electrical materials and tools.
Misc- A fish cleaning table, fish rod holders and fish pole storage racks are provided in the pilot house. Extra sleeping accommodations are available in the Solon, under the galley table which hinges
and in the pilot house(sea berth). A propane Bar-B-que is provided

August 2004 Passage Maker Magazine had an article about the designer, Diesel Ducks and various DD builders. They mention McNally as being the builder of 3 DD and several Cape Horn steel Trawlers.
Layout/AccomadationsWalk Through
Enter pilothouse through watertight, steel dutch doors at either side deck, down forward steps to salon, galley, engine room entry,and forward guest cabin. From pilothouse, down aft steps to master suite. Walk around side decks with full rails, access to pilothouse roof, crow's nest, stern boarding ladder from small boarding step. The interior is finished in cherry wood with cherry and holly flooring. Lots of overhead lighting, including red night lights. Convenience outlets for 12VDC use. Pilothouse has fully instrumented helm station, helm chair, bench seat with a small table, lockers including a safe, 5 forward windshields are 1" tempered glass 3 of which have washers and wipers, others are 3/4" and some are opening with screens. Salon features a settee to port, dinette to starboard, galley next forward to port, pantry to starboard. Guest stacked twin bunk room and head, Jensen stereo, and Bendix combo washer/dryer at the bow. Watertight hatch to anchor locker . Engine room access through watertight door in salon (5'10" engine room headroom). Master suite has centerline queen berth, many, many lockers and drawers, own stero system, stall shower and head. The cabinetry houses a metal enclosure for the Yanmar get home engine. The many deck hatches provide ready access to equipment. Safety hand rails are conveniently located throughout the boat.
Galley
Corian countertops, double stainless sink with fresh and sea water faucets, propane 3 burner stove, Propane oven new in 2015 (installed but not hooked up), 5 cubic foot refrigerator and separate 5 cubic foot freezer with Grunert water cooled refrigeration system with backup. Ice maker in the salon.
Detailed features of noteDeck and Hull Hull is constructed of steel with an aluminum wheelhouse. Keel bottom is 1.5", keel sides are 1/2", all other steel is 1/4", wheelhouse is 3/8" aluminum. Bow has stainless plate for protection from anchor . Fresh bottom paint 8/1/2015. Full keel with rudder shoe protects 30" X 21" Nibral prop. Sail drive leg and folding prop for the come-home is protected by a separate steel skeg. The 4 deck hatches are polycarbonate and welded in. The 21 portlights are 1/2" tempered with steel storm covers and are also welded in.Deck lockers fore and aft of wheelhouse. Two Muir windlass' are hydraulic, forward is Thor 4,000 # and aft is Jaguar 2,500#. Forward is a dual setup with main 110# Delta with 380' of 1/2" high test chain, second is Fortress with 50' of 1/2" chain and 400' of 3/4" Dacron. Rigging includes a mast and boom with a crow's nest and flopper stopper stabilizers with spare planes. Keel cooler is Schedule 40 split pipe welded to the keel. Solar powered vents on hatches. |

Master cabin island berth lifts via elect-hydraulic ram to gain access to the rudder post, Yanmar exhaust, misc as well as bulk storage of spares. The Yanmar get-home motor is located under the chest of drawers starboard side forward of master berth. See photos.

Engine RoomMachinery At 1400 RPM the main delivers 6 knots at 1.5 GPH. The sail drive get-home will drive the boat at 3 MPH. The engine room is watertight while air is supplied via intake at the wheelhouse roofline. There is a substantial fire suppression system with standpipes on the side decks each side of the wheelhouse and a fire hose. There is a high capacity 1.5" fire/washdown/bilge pump system and hydraulic system that drives the 2 windlasses and the thruster. Engine room piping is all color coded. Fuel is filtered when transferred to the day tanks and twice more before each engine. Furnace hot water is plumbed through the radiators in each cabin space and the main engine.
