Accommodations
The interior is satin varnished for the most part, with gloss accents on trim. The boats sleeps 4 owners and guests in two staterooms; two more guests can be added, provided they are convivial and sleep in the 2 settee berths (for a total of 6 berths in all). The master stateroom is forward with a vee-berth, a vanity and hanging locker. The vanity has three drawers and a mirrored cabinet. Two drawers extended under the forepeak bunks. A removable, trapezoidal support and cushion increase the size of the vee-berth. There is extensive storage under the berths. An enclosed cabinet is forward. Two custom shelves are on either side.
The head is accessible through separate doors from the vee-berth and the main salon. The marine toilet has a Y-valve that can send sewage directly overboard or forward to a holding tank, which can be emptied by a macerator pump when off-shore. A deck plate provides access to the holding tank for pump-out service in harbor. The head has a sink with hot and cold water. The faucet has a flexible hose that allows for showering. A sump directs the water to holding bin in the sump which, in turn, is served by a pump with float switch. There are ample shelves, behind sliding mirrored panels. Storage for cleaning materials is under the sink.
In the main salon there are two opposing settles facing the table (which also encloses the engine). The chart table and navigation station are at the aft starboard side. Under the table there is a cabinet in which manuals are stored, along with emergency flares and the like. The quarterberth/aft cabin entry is on the starboard side and opens toward a hanging locker. The Epirb is mounted at the entrance. Headroom in the quarterberth is restricted. There is storage under the berth and a small cabinet above. A removable support and cushion increase the size of the berth. A custom canvas/mesh system provides more storage. A custom teak hatch at the far end of the quarterberth offers starboard side access to the aft end of the boat.
The galley includes a two-burner propane stove with oven, water heater, pressure and manual water system, ice box, miscellaneous pots and pans, utensils, and various plates and bowls. There are drawers and a storage cabinet to the left of the stove. Under the sink there is storage for large pots. The water pressure pump is here also, as is the Y-valve that switches domestic water from the tank under the port settee to the second water tank, under the cockpit sole. Behind the stove and counter there is storage behind sliders. There are also compartments under the counter for canned and dry goods. Shelves on the bulkhead store cups and the like.
Sails and Rigging The mast and boom were built by Hall Spars. Standing rigging is wire. The chainplates were replaced and rebedded for the 2014 season. There is a control line for the Quick Vang boom vang. The hydraulic backstay adjuster is by Navtech. There are eight Spinlocks on the cabin top for various lines that are led aft, as well as the requisite blocks and fairleads. There is a custom retractable, above-deck Selden sprit for asymmetrical spinnaker/code 0 use. An inner forestay system for a storm sail has been removed, but can easily be reattached.
The sail inventory includes:
- Fully battened main with two reef points (Maine Sailing Partners 2009)
- 105% Jib (Maine Sailing Partners 2009)
- Asymmetrical spinnaker (Maine Sailing Partners 2007)
- ATN spinnaker sock for A-Sail
- Code 0 (North 1999)
- Gale Sail (ATN storm sail)
- Custom storm sail
The current owner had a Strong Sail Track system installed to ease raising and lower the main. All control lines are lead to the cockpit (reefing lines, Cunningham, and luff tensioner). The inventory includes snatch blocks and tweaking systems for the spinnaker sheets.
Hull and Deck Monomoit was Awlgripped for the 2009 season by Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding in Thomaston, Maine. Her topsides are black, accented by a white boot stripe and gold cove stripe. The nonstick deck is gray and white. The cockpit is white. All of the canvas (sail cover, dodger, instrument cover, spinnaker sheet bags) is Seafoam Green Sunbrella. There is a stainless steel stern ladder with teak step.
Track for the adjustable jib cars run either side of the cabin top. There are teak hand holds on both sides of the cabin top, as well as the solar panels for trickle charging the batteries.. Forward by the starboard shrouds there is a locker in which a lunch hook Fortress and 10 feet of chain are stored. At the bow there is a stainless steel pulpit on which the Bruce-style plow anchor is stored. Its chain and rode are led back to the hawser for the locker for the rode.
Cockpit There is ample cockpit, with a large lazarette on the port side. The traveler is located just before the wheel so that all controls are easily available to both skipper and crew. The electric primaries are located far enough aft on the combing to be easily accessible when the boat is sailed single-handed. A custom removable teak stand for the helmsmen provides solid footing (and a boost for anyone of shorter stature). The multi-function Raymarine 90w display is positioned above the binnacle and compass. Additional programmable instrument displays are positioned above the companionway.
The engine panel is to the left of the wheel. It is protected from weather and errant feet by two stainless bars and an Isinglass cover. The built-in compartment for the two aluminum propane tanks is on the starboard quarter. Shut-off can be done manually or via a solenoid whose switch is on the electrical panel below. Access to the rudder post is under a hatch beneath the helmsman’s seat. Custom white cushions are attached by snaps. A Lifeline is on the stern rail and secured to the radar mast. Canvas spinnaker sheet bags are on the stern rail, as well.
Electronics and Navigation The Raymarine 90W multi-function system (radar, plotter, knotmeter, fathometer, water temperature, AWI, Serius WX) was installed for 2013 season. The Raymarine autopilot was installed several years earlier. Uniden ES Submersible UM525 VHF: ACR 2844 ACR Globalfix Pro 406 EPIRB Integral GPS Category 2 (new June 2014). Radar is mounted to an Epson 10’ post on the port quarter. A Ritchie Powerdamp binnacle compass is at the wheel. The Sailcomp PC103 system displays on the cabin top and at the chart table.

Mechanical "Monomoit" is powered by a three-cylinder Volvo 2003 diesel engine. It has been serviced extensively the past two years by Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine. Work has included an overall of its electrical system—a new alternator, rebuilt starter, and new wiring harness and panel. An injector was replaced, as well. The shaft has a dripless coupling, a Spurs cutter to deal with fouling, and a folding Martec prop.
Electrical There is a 12-volt (DC) system and a 110/210-volt AC system. The latter is wired for connection to shore power. DC discharge (load) is monitored by an ammeter at the chart table. A four-way main switch below the chart table selects each batter bank. Shore power has a water heater, battery charger, and grounded AC plugs in the quarterberth, galley head, and forepeak. Two old Siemens M20 solar panels provide a trickle charge to each battery bank. Valeo 50 amp/14 volt alternator charges battery bank while engine is running. Ample Power Next Step Regulator mounted in the locker under the chart table monitors and controls battery charging.
