Condition
This boat is 4.8 on a scale of 0 to 5, with 5 being 'show room' or Bristol condition. This opinion takes into consideration the age of the boat, it's use, how it presents, and very importantly, the attitude of the owners toward this craft. This is an extremely well cared for Wahoo. My initial impression is a fabulous boat, especially considering it's age.
The top, sides and bottom of this boat are well kept and polished! The owner of the boat was just finishing a polished and waxed job as I arrived. The glass and gel coat are a bright gloss and excellent shine! The only imperfections are some minor scratches on the starboard side, that are only noticeable when the boat is on the trailer, and then you have to take a 'worm's eye view', look and up and you can see them just below the rub rail. These are photo documented. Otherwise, this boat is spotless!
My reasoning for not giving a perfect score is the padded back rest on the transom bench has a top piping that needs to be replaced. The vinyl appears to be find, but the stitching for the piping) seam trim) has lost it's integrity. Again, this is photo documented. The trailer is brand new, and is painted steel. The original galvanized trailer is available, and can be swapped out, if the purchaser prefers.
The trailer features a folding tongue, a great feature for a small craft kept in a garage, or other confined space. The trailer hardly moves when a 200 lb adult stands on any of the foot pads in front of and behind either tire. Obviously, this is more trailer than the boat requires! The owner purchased this trailer in the spring, as he felt the original trailer would be close to maximum load, carrying the gear for 4 kids and two adults for a day at the beach!
The engine is spotless! The boat is spotless! The trailer is less than a year old! The lower unit was REPLACED this spring... This is a well maintained, and well cared for boat! It is owned by a long time boater who refurbishes boats as a hobby. His current project, which will be done by spring, would have caused him to miss the boating season this last summer. That being out of the question, the owner found this boat at a local marina, where the lower unit had just been replaced. So this last summer, he would pile 2 adults, 4 kids, towels, swim gear, beach equipment (including Tonka trucks), and various water toys into the boat, and head for the lake!
The owner gleams when telling of day trips up the shores of Lake Michigan to the next port north, about 25 miles each way. He was accompanied by 5 other 'dinghies' that just made a day out of it!
The helm has a sun cover, and the entire boat has a mooring cover, which doubles as a trailing cover. The cover has full belly straps that keep it in place while traveling.
Subtle 'nice touches' the pull up cleats, and nifty anchor storage in the bow. The anchor is nicely stowed thanks to some heads-up thinking by the manufacture (see photos).
The cockpit and helm area of this boat is functional, and comfortable!. The helm seat is actually a full width seat which makes it nice for snuggling, or keeping an eye on the kids!
The owner installed a radio (with wireless remote) and marine speakers. He removed the rod holders from the center console and sides, as his application required being more 'kid proof' than set up for fishing. He retains the original rod holders that are easily reinstalled by simply screwing them back in place. Again, please see the photos of the owner holding the rod holders in their original position. There is a very nice Bimini top.
Mechanically, the engine is clean, and well cared for. As stated earlier, the lower unit was replaced in the spring of 2014. This can be seen by carefully looking at the engine photos. The lower unit is slightly 'whiter' than the rest of the engine. For first time buyers, or those not involved in the mechanics of an outboard engine, the lower unit provides two important functions: (1) Gear selection and shifting, and; (2) the water pump. Replacement of this part of the engine would be the same as installing a new transmission in a car, and getting a water pump as a bonus! The power head is shown from all angles with the engine hood removed. Clean, neat, everything in place and well taken care of.
This boat looks like it is wiped down upon being put back on the trailer.... The sides, bottom, and out drives have no spots or hard water residue.
This is a well cared for boat one owner boat that has been professionally maintained and serviced, and is a great find for some lucky new owner!
