A major sales success with over 400 sold, the 40' Sportfish contributed mightily to Viking's reputation as a quality East Coast builder. Boasting an aggressive profile and rugged hull construction, the Viking 40's cockpit and spacious interior are big for a 40 footer. Notable too are the balsa-cored hull sides - the Viking 40 was one of the early production boats to pioneer this technology for weight savings and additional insulation. Steel engine beds were also employed, which have now become a Viking trademark. Several interior layouts were offered affecting only the lower living areas. This is the single stateroom model. The upholstery was new in 2014.

Black Pearl has the lower helm steering. The engines were new 500 hours ago and do not burn any oil. These were not rebuilt engines, but brand new. They are raw water cooled. Oil and filters changed every year at lay up. The transmissions and generator were rebuilt at the time of the new engine install. The electronics were all new in 2012.
