The Monterey 298 Super Sport remains one of the biggest open-bow runabouts ever produced in this country.�  Built on a deep-V hull with a wide 9â��6â�� beam, the focal point of the 298 is her large cockpit - with its aft bench seat that folds down to increase the size of the existing sun pad.�  A contoured lounge is opposite the helm, abutting a small console with wet bar and sink, and the double-wide helm seat has a flip-up bolster for standup driving.�  An unusual feature of the 298 SS is the air-conditioned double berth concealed within the portside console.�  An enclosed head is in the opposite console, and both of these compartments are fitted with an opening port for ventilation.�  Thereâ��s plenty of storage under the back-to-back helm seats, and the sun pad lifts up to reveal the engine compartment.�  Standard features include an extended swim platform, docking lights, pull-up cleats, transom shower, fender storage, and Vacu-Flush toilet.�  An excellent open-water performer, twin 300 hp MerCruiser 350s gas sterndrives cruise in the low 30s and reach a top speed in excess of 45 mph.�
