ConstructionThe MJM 34Z hull is cored with Corecell closed cell foam in wet pre-pregged E-glass and Kevlar on the outer skin and then solid laminate on the centerline, chine flats and rail edge. The exterior laminate is Kevlar, hence the description of the layup as being composite. All laminate is laid up in Gougeon System epoxy. The reason for this is three fold:
- Epoxy when cured has a similar elongation and bending characteristic as the fiberglass and Kevlar itself there for over millions of cyclical loads there will be less breakdown between the resin and the rest of the laminate compared to vinylester and polyester resin
- Epoxy has the greatest water resistence of any resin
- Epoxy has the greatest chemical bond to the laminate. After the structure is completed the hull & deck are heated to 140 degrees for 3 days to fully post cure all resin; in total providing the strongest, lightest, most easily driven hull in the industry.
