This 46 Maxum 4600 SCB 1998 is in very nice condition and has been professionally kept by a knowledgable owner and yachtsman. This is one of the best and earliest examples of a brand of "Sport Yacht" that was the next big innovation in yachts in this size range. The first earlier was in the express cruiser. The Euro Style sport yacht has made Flybridge yachts, stylish, sexy, sporty and fast. And in todays market this is the most sort after yacht style in the new generation of mid sized up in to large yachts and mega yachts.

Maxum has always been known for building reasonably priced quality yachts which competed directly with all the other industry leaders in the American boating and yachting market.

On this particular 46 Maxum, the exterior is in good condition. She presents well and has been shed kept in a southern climate. Her helm station sits almost midship just aft of mid. The helm is well laid out and it is comfortable. It is accented with wood veneer paneling. Full instrumentation is accessible and views easily. Visibility is excellent and affords a good clear 360' view. A bimini top provides some shade and sun protection.

The aft cockpit is reasonably good sized and comfortable. Access to the cockpit is through a center transom door off the swim platform. The salon is a nice size for a yacht this size and she feels warm, upscale and comfortable. There is an abundance of cherry paneling and trim. She sports a TV, entertainment system, carpeting, is bright and airy. And a dinette is comfortable and much appreciated for all meals. The galley is down with a good amount of counter space.

This is a two guest cabin layout with the guest cabin to starboard and the master stateroom forward with a good sized centerline queen berth. This is a really comfortable master cabin and her new owner can look forward to longer cruising or short weekends in comfort and style. The entire interior is punctuated with all the amenities that you would expect from a quality yacht such as indirect and overhead lighting, air conditioning and climate control and other owner creature comforts.

Powerboat Guide Review

A heavy dose of European styling and a super-competitive price
combined to make the 4600 SCB an early marketing success for
Maxum. At just over 30,000 pounds, the 4600 is a relatively light
boat for her size—a fact that doubtless contributes to her good
fuel economy. She rides on a solid fiberglass hull with moderate
beam and a shallow keel for directional stability. The Maxum’s twostateroom
floorplan is arranged with the galley up, a step down
from the salon level, with a choice of either an elevated dinette or
a lower helm to starboard. Both head compartments are fitted with
separate stall showers, and a good deal of cherry paneling and trim
are applied throughout the stylish interior. On deck, the compact
cockpit is shaded by a flybridge overhang. A ladder leads up to
the flybridge with ample guest seating and wet bar aft of the helm,
and the wide swim platform can store a PWC. Early models with
400hp gas inboards cruise at 16–17 knots cruise (24 knots top).
Optional 370hp Cummins cruise at 18 knots (about 22 knots top),
and a pair of 450hp Cummins cruise at 20 knots and reach a top
speed of 23–24 knots.

"For all the indignities — limited room-service menus, no-host bars and such — a boating writer must suffer in the name of his art, there are a few rewards. Dying sunlight over darkening water. Dream locations. The chance to spend some time, without spending a dime, aboard something truly luxurious.

The Maxum 4600 SCB falls into the final category and, come to think of it, San Francisco Bay off Sausalito more than rates as a dream location. So what if I didn't have all day to wait and watch the sunset from the upper deck of the 45-foot-11-inch-long, 14-foot-4-inch-wide cruiser? As the saying goes, two out of three ain't bad.

Moving 30,400 pounds of boat through the water is a formidable job, and to get it done in later models the 4600 SCB was equipped with two Cummins 450C Diamond Series diesels. For those who prefer gas power to diesel, twin MerCruiser 8.2-liter motor packages are offered.

But forget the brawn, because the 4600 SCB is all about beauty, starting with its master stateroom with a queen-size bed and private access to a head compartment complete with a bathtub and a shower. All cabinetry in the master was finished in cherry wood, as was the cabinetry throughout the guest stateroom and main salon. (For those who prefer a lighter look, ash cabinetry is an option.) With a refrigerator/freezer, a convection/microwave oven, a hot-and cold-water sink and a three-burner electric stove, the galley should please demanding chefs, as would its Corian ® countertops. For additional stowage of cold beverages and perishables, another refrigerator was supplied in the entertainment center aft of the galley, along with a TV/VCR and CD stereo system.

The entire boat could, in fact, be viewed as an entertainment center, given that the dining and salon area could host 10 people sitting and perhaps double that standing. On warm evenings, "overflow" guests could make their way up the easily climbed stairs (thanks to well-placed stainless-steel handrails) to the top deck. Once there, they'd find a generous open area all the way aft, an L-shaped lounge that comfortably could seat six to port and yet another entertainment center with a sink and refrigerator behind the double-wide helm seat to starboard.

No question, the top deck is the best place on the 4600 SCB to catch a sunset. Next time."
