Accommodations
Accommodates two in a Herreshoff style finished interior with varnished mahogany on white flat panels with a varnished teak & holly sole. The wheelhouse has a varnished straight teak deck. Four opening ports and one large hatch provide ventilation below and the wheelhouse has natural ventilation via centerline opening windshield and two large sliding windows P&S plus a varnished teak framed screen door for the aft entry. When natural ventilation is not enough, there is a reverse cycle A/C unit and, when in cooler climes, should you not want to run the generator, there is Espar diesel cabin heat! Excellent artificial lighting as well as natural light.
Starting forward is a 6'6" V-berth with bin type stowage below. Above the berth the hull is lined with varnished ash ceilings and there is a full length varnished teak shelf for storage. Aft of the stbd V is a bureau with three large drawers, outboard of which there is a locker with two shelves.
Aft of the bureaus is the enclosed head featuring a vanity with Corian counter top and sink and storage in two lockers, a drawer and shelf. The W.C. is a Vacuflush unit plumbed via Y-valve to the holding tank or overboard.
Opposite the head and bureau is the Galley with Corian counter top, single basin stainless steel sink, storage in three drawers, two lockers and a shelf, Origio 4000 non-pressurized alcohol two burner stove and Panasonic 1100 Watt microwave. A Nova Cool dual voltage refrigeration unit provides chilled food storage.
Up two steps to the Pilothouse. Helm station to starboard and open bridge deck to port with a chart table/nav. station. Two Pompanette chairs with tie downs. Foam backed vinyl headliner provides additional sound dampening. Two opening overhead hatches with screens.

ElectricalWired for both 12 Volt DC and 110 Volt AC. When off the dock an Onan genset provides power when the A/C is required. Otherwise, a Trace Inverter easily handles other loads. The generator has essentially never been used; both owners have periodically run it under load just to keep it "exercised". Upgrades to the elctrical system were made in '07 including new gel cell batteries, a 2nd alternator and 2nd battery charger as well as adding a dedicated gel cell battery for the bow thruster & windlass.

Hull & DeckThe fiberglass hull is cored with end grain balsa and was vacuum bagged, solid fiberglass along the centerline and in way of all thru hulls. Exterior laminates are in vinylester resin for superior blister resistence. In 2000, the hull was awlgripped in Jade Green with a gold cove stripe and white/red/white boot top. The bottom is painted in a hard epoxy blue. Deck and house construction is fiberglass with end grain balsa core which was vacuum bagged at construction. The house is Awlgripped offwhite (done in 2000) and the teak decks are primarily glued down with minimal mechanical fastening.
The cockpit is ideal for entertaining running the width of the yacht and almost 13' in length. Teak steps (another 2000 addition) lead to the side decks. Unusual for many downeast style boats, MERRY WIDOW has full length stainless steel safety rails.

AdditionalOriginally ordered "on spec" from Atlantic Boat (Duffy & Duffy) by Dodson's Yacht Yard in Stonington, CT to finish as a day boat style downeast cruiser, she was purchased by her first owner in 2000. At that time, final finish work was done: the generator, bow thruster, air cond equipment, Espar cabin heat and extensive Sounddown insulation were installed. A transom door and extended swim platform were added, spray rails (glued and mechanically fastened on), underdeck lockers in the cockpit added, and cockpit teak hatches were installed. The house had an extra set of windows installed and a hard enclosure with teak doors was done and the remaining windows were upgraded and changed out. To finish turning her into the exquisite yacht that she is, her hull was Awlgripped Jade Green and a gold cove stripe and white/red/white boot top was done.
Her first owner had her as a 2nd smaller downeast boat, the larger yacht being over 50'. She spent her first two years used very lightly seasonally in Maine and was then stored inside for approx 9 months of the year. In 2004 he trucked her south where she was stored inside in the summer and was in the water, again very lightly used but in the water about 7 months of the year. The listing broker took her in trade on a larger new Eastbay in early '06 and has run the boat a number of times. Her current owner has used her for day trips on Ches. Bay and a couple of overnights. She is only for sale as he wishes to downsize to a mid twenty foot length center console to fish from.
MERRY WIDOW is certainly a proper yacht and comes highly recommended for those who want a vessel that turns heads wherever she goes. While there are comfortable accommodations her large cockpit leaves her more condusive for use as a "picnic boat" though a couple certainly could enjoy cruising on her.
