Accommodations
The Freedom 38 has a large, high quality interior. Starting forward is a v-berth with full standing headroom. The berth features a real mattress for comfort made by Handcraft Mattress with a filler to form a full double berth. There is lots of storage under the berth in drawers and open bins. A large overhead hatch provides ample ventilation. There is a teak bureau and hanging locker to starboard. A private door from the vee-berth accesses the head compartment. Teak woodwork throughout with ash battened hull ceilings. The berth is separated from the main cabin by a hinged teak door. Hella Turbo fan. The main salon is next aft with an L-shaped settee to port which converts to a double berth. Storage below settee and in lockers and open cabinet above the settee. A hinged dining table is mounted on the main bulkhead which enclosed a large bottle storage unit. The table has a hinged leaf to allow dining from both sides of the salon. There is a straight settee to starboard with tankage below and storage above in lockers and an open cabinet. All of the above settee storage lockers have louvered doors for ventilation of their contents. The salon features four large opening ports for ventilation, one large overhead hatch, and two dorade vents. All of the ports in the salon have accordian shades for privacy. The head compartment is to port featuring a new Vacuflush marine toilet, white laminate vanity with teak trim in the Hereshoff manner with storage above and below. Stainless steel head sink, hot and cold pressurized water with shower, large mirror on the bulkhead, shower drain in the non-skid floor. Ventilation is provided by two opening ports and an overhead hatch. A teak locker and storage cabinet is opposite the head compartment. The nav station is aft to starboard with electrical panels, nav instruments, a stainless steel based swing-out nav stool, and a hinged cover revealing chart storage. Aft of the nav station is a hanging locker. The galley is opposite the nav station to port. A spacious aft cabin with a double berth completes the interior featuring storage in a hanging locker and cabinet. Ventilation is provided by three ports, two of which open to the cockpit and one opens to the starboard topsides. The woodwork below decks is all oiled teakwood with a varnished teak and holly cabin sole.
Galley
The well thought-out U-shaped galley is aft to port at the base of the companionway. The galley features gelcoated fiberglass furniture bases with teakwood accents. Double polished stainless steel sinks with hot and cold pressurized water. Refrigerator in the countertop; food storage in the countertop; dish and food storage in cabinets above the galley; storage for cleaning products beneath the sink. 3 burner Force 10 propane stove with oven; trash-bin pass-through door. Overhead mounted wineglass storage rack. UV water purification and filtration system.
Electronics
Autohelm ST 7000 autopilot mounted in a pod at the helm; Raymarine ST5000 autopilot mounted on port cockpit backrest; Raymarine ST60 speed, depthsounder, and wind machine mounted on cockpit bulkhead, all new in 2005; Raymarine RC520 GPS Chartplotter at the helm; Autopilot remote control; Raymarine ST60 Graphic display repeater at the nav table; Apelco radar mounted on an aluminum stern post with a CRT radar display at the nav table; Icom IC M600 single sideband radio at the nav station; Apelco Loran at the nav station; West Marine VHF radio at the nav station; Pioneer AM-FM stereo tape player with a six disc CD changer, two cockpit and two salon mounted speakers.
Electrical
12 volt DC and 110 Volt AC systems with electrical panels at the nav station. The batteries are charged by a battery charger at dockside and by the alternator underway; Battery selector switch; Statpower 1500 watt inverter. Three group 27 AGM Lifeline batteries, one for starting and two for the house, new in 2006.
Sails
The full battened Mack-Pack mainsail is original and in good condition; the Thurston camber spar jib was new in 2003. There are large, self-tailing Barient winches in the cockpit on the starboard coachroof which receive all of the running rigging led to the cockpit; a teak line board with line hangers organizes the cockpit led control lines; Schaeffer Marine solid boom vang; Navy Sunbrella mainsail and jib covers.
Deck
The rich Flag Blue Awlgripped hull by Custom Fiberglass of Hingham was done in 2005. White deck with contrasting beige nonskid surface on deck and in the cockpit; white cove stripe, white boot stripe; teak rub-rail with stainless steel striker plate; slotted aluminum toe-rail. Navy Sunbrella dodger, bimini, and connector with side enclosures as well. Varnished teak handrails; stainless steel dorades with varnished teak boxes. Carbonfiber mast; aluminum boom; vinyl coated wire double lifelines with boarding gates and stainless steel stancheons; Double rail stainless steel bow and stern rails. The stern rail has a hinged boarding ladder with varnished teak steps.
