The Catalina 27 is truly an American classic and one of the most popular mid-sized sloops on the water today. It’s a spacious, user-friendly family cruiser that could very well also be a weekend racer. This particular Cat 27 is configured as the tall rig, shoal draft inboard diesel engine option. The Catalina 27 has a shallow but comfortable cockpit with a locker to port and aft lazarette. Steering is controlled by the pedestal mounted wheel, while there is an emergency tiller on board. The companionway is enormous which makes stepping below a breeze, which is not always the case in small boats. Once below decks, you’ll find the interior is very spacious and user-friendly. The layout includes a V-berth forward followed by an enclosed head. The saloon has two opposite settees and the galley is aft to port and a comfortable quarter berths aft, tucked beneath the cockpit; total sleeping accommodations for up to six. There is plenty of storage and ample headroom of about 6 feet. Power is supplied by the more desirable two-cylinder,18hp Universal diesel engine. The Catalina 27 didn’t become one of the most popular boats ever built without good reason. It offers good sailing, comfortable accommodations, one-design fleets and active owner’s groups.

This Catalina 27 has been well maintained throughout the years and does not show age at all. All running rigging has been replaced and bimini & sail covers restitched in 2012. Her engine received new injectors, oil seals and oil pan in 2011, while her transmission was completely rebuilt in 2012. The 144 sq. ft. main sail has two reef points, while the 130 Genoa neatly unfurls from the Hood roller-furling. Both sails were new in 2008 and are well cared for and the original set of sails will serve as good back-ups, or practicing.

This is an excellent opportunity for great sailing yacht, or a perfect upgrade from a one design. All she lacks is a loving, worthy captain!
