The Seaward 26RK sailboat is a trailerable pocket cruiser with a retractable keel that allows sailors to explore and anchor in even the shallowest waters. Unlike many trailerable sailboats, the Seaward 26RK offers superior tracking characteristics thanks to her torpedo keel, which draws 6' when fully deployed and can be retracted to as little as 2" of draft.
She comes complete with a galvanized tandem trailer making it easy to move to sailing destinations from any boat launch. At the same time, she offers the convenience and comfort of a cruiser with sleeping accommodation for three adults, an equipped galley, porte-potty, and air conditioning. Mainsail is on the ready in a stack pack and a furling headsail for e-z single-hand sailing.
The hallmark of the Seaward 26 RK sailboat design is its traditional tall plumb bow and and upward sloping cabintop highlighted by 6 stainless steel portholes and a large forward portlight. Intigraded into the design, navigation lights, cleat fairleads, toe rail, an anchor roller and a stainless steel band encircling the chemically and mechanically sealed hull-deck joint.
Her hull construction is vinylester gelcoat, 1.5oz chop stranded mat and isophthalic polyester resin to ensure resin on both sides, then 40oz. triaxial cloth. Coremat was used in the flat runs of the hull to improve stiffness on the mostly solid glass hull. The interior pan is also solid fiberglass and vacuum-bonded while extra laminations were added in potentially high-stress areas including the keel trunk and hull deck joint.
The deck is similarly laid up in the same method and is cored with Divinycell foam. 1/8" aluminum plates are bedded in the fiberglass lamination for deck hardware. Chainplates are fastened into a 3" wide stainless steel strap penetrates the coachroof and lead to the hull, where it attaches to stainless steel rods.
The retractable 1,200-lb keel is a NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) designed, high aspect, 8' -long section with 26" wings attached to a torpedo bulb. Fully deployed she draws 6' and just 2' when lifted up. Controlling the keel is easy, controlled from the cockpit by a 2,000lb capacity Rule Industries 20SS electric motor housed below the maststep in a solid fiberglass box.

Pros
Versatile Design: The 26RK features a sleek, modern design that allows for efficient sailing, whether in light winds or more robust conditions. Its performance characteristics make it suitable for a variety of sailing environments.
Keel and Rudder Configuration: The retractable keel and rudder enable shallow water access, allowing you to explore less accessible areas where other boats can't go. This feature is particularly appealing for those who enjoy anchoring in secluded spots.
Spacious Interior: Despite its compact size, the cabin is thoughtfully designed to maximize space. It typically includes a comfortable V-berth, an open salon area, a functional galley, and a compact head that offers all necessary amenities for extended cruising.
Stability and Comfort: The boat's design provides stability and comfort, even in choppy waters. This makes it a great choice for families or those new to sailing who value a smooth ride.
Quality Construction: Hake Marine is known for its commitment to quality craftsmanship, and the Seaward 26RK is no exception. The use of durable materials and attention to detail ensures longevity and resilience in various weather conditions.
Easy to Trailer: The 26RK is trailerable, which opens up a world of possibilities for transporting the boat to different bodies of water without the need for a marina slip.
Cons
Limited Storage Space: While the interior is well-designed, the size of the boat can result in limited storage space for larger crews or extended trips, requiring careful packing and planning.
Performance in Heavy Winds: The boat may not perform as optimally in heavy winds as larger cruisers, which could be a consideration for experienced sailors looking for a boat that can handle extreme conditions.
Niche Appeal: The retractable keel, while beneficial in shallow waters, may not be appealing to all sailors and could potentially lead to compromises in some aspects of sailing performance compared to fixed-keel boats.
Maintenance Requirements: As with any sailboat featuring a retractable keel and rudder, there may be additional maintenance requirements to ensure these systems function smoothly over time.
Limited Sleeping Capacity: Accommodating more than four people for overnight trips may be a bit cramped, making the 26RK more suited for small groups or families.
