New and Used Saga Yachts for sale

Saga Yachts Dealer List

The initial concept for SAGA Yachts contained ideas that were destined to make waves in the sailing industry. Riding the first wave out of St. Catharine's in April 1996 was the SAGA 43. Creating that first wave was a small group of skilled boatbuilders who had joined to form SAGA Yachts in late 1995. With decades of experience constructing boats for some of the best know names in the industry in North America and Europe, there was no lack of talent or imagination in the new company.

At SAGA Yachts we think you deserve something new and truly refreshing to cruise into the 21st Century. And so, SAGA has taken advantage of a lack of corporate dogmatism and started from a clean sheet of paper.

"Talent and imagination" has meant that knowledge gained from the seemingly disparate worlds of cruising and offshore racing have been combined in a new type of boat—The SAGA model of boat! First the 43, then the 35, followed by the award winning 48 and soon to be followed by the 409, launching this spring.

It seems some leaders in the sailing business have difficulty being truly candid about the massive increase in hydrodynamic knowledge over the past 29 years.  Vast improvements in sensor technology combined with complex computer modeling, data gathered from the large Open Class offshore fleet and increasingly sophisticated CAD software allow the modern boatbuilder to create boats that are far superior to those of the past. Superior speed with comfort at a lower price would seem to be desirable goals for any boatbuilder. Seemingly not for some builders, especially so, when their company's best seller happens to be a ten or twenty year old design.

The common thread throughout the SAGA line is "cruising", first and foremost.   It's not that we don't understand racing, indeed our management team includes a former IOR International champion.

You will find that all Sagas display stellar sailing characteristics that will please any performance sailor, yet have full luxury accommodations for extended cruising and living aboard. Passagemaking speed, excellent ventilation, a high level of detailing, and low maintenance exteriors are our hallmark.

Saga's Variable Geometry Rig™—a Saga Yachts Exclusive

To fully understand the SAGA VG RIG™ you must realize—It is not a cutter! Nor is it an ordinary sloop. Derived from highly successful single-handed racing boats, it provides several important benefits for the cruising sailor: You'll never have to struggle upwind with a partially furled genoa. No more tacks with a a large genoa dragging around the shrouds as your mate struggles to winch it in. The rig is proportioned so that an overlapping headsail is not a necessity for sailing close-hauled, even in light air.

The custom jib traveler track, and a single jib sheet led aft, handle the roller furling, self-tending jib. Although fully self-tending, there is no dangerous jib boom or club to dodge; nothing to clutter up the foredeck. Tacking is reduced to a simple turn of the wheel, no crew needed, not even winches are required.  Bear away onto a reach, release the furling line and a light genoa is deployed to add power while the jib is furled. The resultant shift forward in the centre of sail pressure provides a light helm pressure, even under hard pressing conditions. Broad reaching, an asymmetrical spinnaker can be flown from the bowsprit. Thanks to the SAGA VG RIG™, our yaghts remain exceptionally well-behaved on all points of sail and is easily steered even when pressed hard, unlike conventional cruising sloops and cutters. Tracking is outstanding, easily matching, even outperforming traditional long keel cruising sailboats.
