Palmer Johson Sailing Yachts have a rich heritage that began with building wooden fishing boats over 90 years ago. Originally founded in 1918 as Johnson and Gmack, the company created a stellar reputation through repairing and building boats for the commercial fishing fleets of the Great Lakes. In 1928, the founder's son, Palmer Johnson, began building his first wooden yacht. From that first yacht sprung great demand for the vessels and the beginning of a legendary name in yacht design and construction.

During World War II, under the name of Sturgeon Bay Boat Works, Johnson built over 45 air-sea rescue boats and four 65 foot freighters. In 1956, the company offically became known as Palmer Johnson Boats. Four years later, the business was acquired by Pat Haggerty, the CEo for Texas Instruments, who established a seperate brokerage through which several different production sailboat models were sold under the Palmer Johnson name.

It was soon decided in the company's best interest that their focus would turn to the construction of custom aluminum yachts. The Palmer Johnson line of production sailboats were only sold for a few years through contractual arrangements with a number of European builders who constructed the boats to be sold under the Palmer Johnson name.

Palmer Johnson's current owner, Tim Mohamed, acquired the company in 2004 and made the decision to continue constructing welded aluminum yachts. Today they continue to create some of the most luxurious superyachts in the world backed by their passion for perfection from the beginning of the production process to the final presentation.
