Four Winns: In 1962, a company called Safe-T-Mate began production of fiberglass boats in Cadillac, MI. In 1975, the Winn family, a father and his three sons purchased Safe-T-Mate boat company and a year later their products became known as Four Winn Boats. Only three years into the journey, a fire destroyed the production facility. Within 6 months, through sheer grit and determination, the facility was rebuilt and production resumed. Over the next several years, Four Winns continued to produce new models with great success, and by 1981 they signed their first international dealer.

In 1985, to accommodate the demand for their cruiser series of boats, Four Winns opened a cruiser dedicated plant. Within a year, they began manufacturing their own line of trailers and were soon after acquired by OMC. After the design and engineering center was opened in 1989, their Stable-Vee hull design won the Popular Mechanics award for innovation.

In 1996 the company changed hands again. The parent company, OMC was acquired by Green Marine and in 2001 the Genmar Corporation purchased Four Winns Boats. During the following nine years, the company expanded it's model line-up and continued to grow and employ the newest innovations available. Finally, in Februaary 2010, Four Winns was purchased by Platinum Equity.

What started out as a family-owned business has grown into one of the world’s largest manufacturers of boats. But there is one thing that has never changed - At Four Winns, boating is still considered a family business. February 2012: Rec Boat Holdings received their second award for the Four Winns S215 model. They were presented with the "Overall Boat of the Year" award from the online yachting magazine nauCAT. The Four Winns S215 came in first in the category of 20’ to 29’ powerboats as well as the much sought-after overall Boat of the Year award. This comes immediately after their winning of the "2012 European Powerboat of the Year" award, which they received in December from the largest European boating publication, Boote Magazine.
