If you are looking for information on Baltic Sailboats, Click Here. Baltic Yacht, a short history:The company began in 1973 when five men collaborated with locals in Bosund, Finland to build a light displacement sailboat. Since the inception of the company the Baltic Yacht company has advocated composite construction. They can build custom yachts in sizes ranging from 38 feet to over 200 feet. Custom Baltic Yachts were initially only a small portion of the business but nevertheless an important part of the Baltic's activities. The Baltic Yacht custom division gave not only a small addition to the business but more importantly, increased the company's technical knowledge and and with that the possibilities to develop new methods and materials in a way that would not have been possible with only standard model production. The custom yachts also gave them the possibility to work together with owners, designers, consultants that Baltic Yacht perhaps otherwise would not have worked with, hence providing them with additional input and challenges. In other words, the Baltic Yacht Custom Division has been a main factor in the technical development process of their company. The Custom Baltic Yacht Division has played an important role in the fact that their company has been on the frontier of development when it comes to sandwich construction, vacuum bagged Epoxy laminates, use of high quality fibers (Carbon, Aramide, S-glass etc) and use of pre-preg laminates cured at high temperature, etc. The Custom Baltic Yachts that are constructed span sizes from 38 to 152 feet and also from the utmost in extreme racing constructions to the most comfortable high performance cruising sailing yachts. In order to achieve the performance and handling characteristic goals Baltic Yacht decided to use designs that were of a light to medium displacement type. A heavier type of design would not have had the same performance they were aiming for; it would also have put them in direct competition with the strongest brands on the market at that time. On the other hand, a super light displacement design would not have had the capability to carry the interior and equipment needed in order to achieve the comfortable cruising characteristics. A light to medium displacement philosophy, with comfortable cruising interior, puts pressure on the builder to reduce the construction weight in order to reach the weight savings required without sacrificing strength and safety. Hence it became essential to use high tech building methods and materials. A very positive spin-off from this is that high tech materials/construction gave Baltic Yacht a higher general quality and a much better durability.
