Benjamin Beneteau, a shipwright, founded the company in 1884, in Croix-de-Vie, France for the purpose of constructing sailing trawlers. In the mid 1960's the grandchildren of Benjamin Beneteau's, Annette Benneteau Roux and her brother Andre Beneteau, introduced a line of fiberglass sailboats. Madame Annette Benneteau Roux is still active in leadership of the company.
