Accommodations
Beautifully finished below decks (as well as above) in the "Herreshoff style" with varnished teak trim on white flat panels. The cabin sole is varnished teak and holly. Accommodations for four in an open airy layout courtesy of the six fixed ports and one large and two small opening hatches with screens. Artificial lighting is provided via overhead dome lights in working spaces in the head and galley and swivel style "tulip lights" at the berths and settees.
Starting forward is the stateroom open to the salon though that could easily be made more private should one so choose. The V-berth is a full 6'-6" and there is storage under in drawers and bin type storage. Above the berth the hull is lined with varnished teak ceilings and there is a storage shelf with fiddle running full length. At the forward bulkhead is a hatch leading to the anchor locker and aft is a small bureau with drawers to starboard and a hanging locker to port.
Next aft is the salon space with straight settees P&S below which there is tankage and batteries and some storage, behind the seat backs there is storage in cubbies and above there is storage in shelves with fiddles and lockers. Aft of the port settee is a hanging locker and above the port settee is the yacht's electrical distribution panels.
Aft and to port is the enclosed head with electric W.C. plumbed via a Y-valve to the holding tank, vanity with storage and polished stainless steel sink with H&C pressure water. The faucet is a "telephone" type to allow for showering. There is a separate sump for the ensuite shower.
Aft and to starboard is the Galley with white Formica counter tops, large ice box, and storage in several drawers and lockers. The owner has found that they never did any cooking onboard and has had an easily removed locker built in place of the stove which he has, and which conveys with the yacht (Force 10 2 burner propane with oven with the balance of the system), except for the vapor tight locker, still installed.
(A dual pedestal varnished teak table has been removed from the boat and the inserts for the posts skillfully filled with inserts matching the sole, this could be re-installed if a new owner so wishes.)

Hull & DeckCored fiberglass hull using the patented SCRIMP (Seemans Composite Resin Infusion Molding Process) process which saturates the kerfs in the end grain balsa coring providing greater strength and largely mitigating any moisture intrusion should any occur. The exterior laminate is layed up in blister resistant monourethane which creates a nice finish and easy to maintain. The finish is Flag Blue isothalic gel coat with a White Boot Top and Gold Cove Stripe which was refinished with single part epoxy in 2012 in Flag Blue. The bottom is finished with multi-season red ablative anti fouling (Interlux Micron 66). The rudder and rudder post are built using carbon fiber to create a hydrodynamically superior blade form as well as providing superior strength. This Alerion Express 38 was built with custom 7'1" draft keel and she is noted to be much stiffer and faster than her sisterships. The custom keel saves 500 lbs in weight
The deck is likewise constructed using the SCRIMP system and is finished with a two tone Gull Grey non-skid on White. The cockpit has a teak overlay and there are varnished teak toe rails, cockpit coamings, brow on the trunk cabin and grab rails providing the traditional elegant look appropriate to this yacht. Deck hardware is polished stainless steel.
The cockpit is one of the most ergonomically pleasing as well as functional and is the social center of the Alerion Express 38 providing generous seating for a large group. Large sail lockers P&S and an equally large lazarette is accessed at the aft deck.
Wide side decks with double stainless steel stanchions and lifelines with gates starboard & port side lead forward.

Manufacturer Provided DescriptionThis is the long limbed big sister to the pace setting AE 28 and a strong family resemblance is evident in the balanced overhangs, delicate sheer and proportionate cabin. A combination of Carl Schumacher's underwater lines and a new deck, cockpit, cabin and topside by the Pearson design Group has produced a yacht that lives up to the Herreshoff legacy of classic beauty. The amazing strength of a modern carbon fiber mast by Hall Spars safely allows the elimination of the backstay, which in turn frees the mainsail for significantly larger size and better aerodynamic shape-proven by record setting windsurfers, multihulls and America's Cup contenders. Sail control by electric winches enables one person to hoist, reef, trim and lower sail, all from the wheel station. With the patented Hoyt Jib Boom adding offwind power, this is a 2 sail, self tacking rig that projects more sail area than any ordinary rig with a 150% genoa. The payoff is excellent light wind and offwind speed-all easily single-handed. Sail tests indicate speed superior to the competition and all for more reasonable price.
