Description
FAR REACHES is a full displacement, twin engine trawler with an Alaskan-style profile and genuine long-range capability. She is sparkling from the tips of the antennas to the bilges and capable of transatlantic passages as her sister ships have proven. Fully functional away from the dock, her redundant systems and large solar array keep her self-sustained. The generous living spaces make this yacht ideal for extended cruising.
The 58’ Krogen has a long keel, protected running gear, and a raised pilot house with a Portuguese bridge. The aft deck is large with full walk-around side deck to the bow. Double doors from the aft deck lead into the salon and open galley, which has a side door to the starboard side walkway. The raised pilot house has a L-shaped dinette and side doors to the side decks.
The Master stateroom with ensuite head/shower is accessed via a separate private stairway that leads down and forward from the Salon. An additional private stairway leads down from the pilot house forward to the VIP guest stateroom with queen berth and ensuite head/shower. A hallway below deck connects both full beam and private staterooms and has an office on the starboard side.
From the port side deck, a staircase leads to the large upper deck with 1500 lb. Marquipt davit and room for a 14’-15’ dinghy. Up three steps, the fly bridge is fitted with a full steering station, two helm chairs, and small lounge with table.
Walk Through
Considering every docking situation, Krogen has designed many ways to enter the 58’. Access is available from the stern, the port side of the cockpit, the starboard side lower passageway and on both sides side of the Portuguese bridge. The forward deck is spacious with a Maxwell 3500 hydraulic windlass and full beam seating forward of the Portuguese bridge. On the starboard Portuguese bridge, a wing station with engine and thruster controls is convenient for docking.
The boat deck is large and accessed by a stairway on the port side of the Portuguese bridge, it will accommodate a 14’ to 15’ dinghy and has a Marquipt 1500 lb. davit. The flybridge is forward and up a few steps from the boat deck.
The cockpit and starboard side deck are teak and covered by the bridge overhang. Water fills are under the side steps. The cockpit is roomy and feels like an extension of the salon with the double entry doors to the salon.
Forward from the teak-decked cockpit thru double Freeman water-tight doors is the main salon which is open to the galley. Another water-tight door leads from the galley to the starboard deck making boarding provisions easy. Up a few steps on the port side, the raised pilot house offers a full steering station and L-shaped dinette with hi-lo table. Water-tight doors on both sides of the pilot house provide access to the Portuguese bridge. A stairway leads from the pilot house to the lower VIP suite. Entrance to the master stateroom and aft engine room entrance is via a stairway in the Salon.
Main Salon
The Main Salon is warm and inviting with American cherry wood cabinetry, solid cherry paneling, and cherry parquet flooring with custom bound carpet. Construction
Below the waterline, the 58’ Krogen is constructed of solid fiberglass with Kevlar-reinforced stem and stern bottom areas and vinylester resins used in first two (2) laminates. Above the waterline, a combination of Knytex, mat, and Airex are used for added resiliency as well as improved sound and thermal installation.
The superstructure is designed of Knytex combined with end-grained balsa and/or Divinycell coring and surface mats (to reduce print-through). It is finished with Cook gel coat. The entire yacht was painted with Awlgrip at American Custom Boat Works in October of 2015. The boat and fore decks are finished with non-skid. Teak covers the aft and side decks.
Freeman weather-tight doors and GEBO windows have been used throughout the vessel.
