This 1974 Grand Banks 50 Europa is easily boarded from either side deck via opening boarding gates with a custom-made portable Teak Grate suspension step that can be hung from the Teak Railing on either side of the vessel. The Europa style side-decks and Cockpit areas have hardtop roofs that provide shelter from rain or sun.The Cockpit is nicely furnished with outdoor weatherproof furniture, and all the decks have had the original teak decking removed and they have been refinished and painted with a two-part linear polyurethane with non-skid areas where necessary.
Enter the Salon through French Double Teak Doors with Built-in Windows and the spacious Dining area is to Starboard with a long Settee to port as well as a 42" LCD TV on an adjustable mount providing options for viewing. Flooring is beautiful gloss varnished Teak Parquet and the original ceiling fabric has been removed throughout this yacht exposing the original beams which are painted white, providing texture and additional headroom as well as perceived additional spaciousness.One A/C system is located under the dinette aft settee.
Forward to Starboard is the U-Shape Galley with overhead cabinets and a multi-level countertop, partially separating the Galley from the Dining and Salon area. The Galley has double SS sinks, a 3-burner Propane Stove and Oven, Microwave, as well as a 2013 Whirlpool SS full-Size Refrigerator with Freezer. There is plenty of storage and countertop space to satisfy the current professional chef/owner.
Moving forward, the railing-enclosed curved staircase is close to the centerline and descends to the lower level. Outboard to Port of the staircase railing is a walkway leading to the spacious full-beam Pilothouse with side doors on each side and a 8' raised bench seat aft, with storage above and below. The well-equipped helm features a new 19" Acer Monitor displaying the integrated Navigation system driven by the Raymarine E-80 GPS Chartplotter. Both helms feature a traditional varnished wooden steering wheel with spokes and bronze accents.
Descend the varnished teak stairs to the lower level and the original gloss-varnished Parquet Teak Floors provide continuity of style and elegance throughout this yacht. The V-Berth is all the way forward with approx. 7' of headroom, varnished teak slats on the inner hull, cabinets with hanging lockers below, storage cabinets above the countertops, and drawers under the V-Berth provide plenty of storage for guests to unpack their suitcases and move onboard.
Aft of the V-Berth to Port is a Head with Vanity and sink, but the toilet has been removed to make it a storage area; and can be easily converted back. Further aft to Port, before the staircase, is another spacious Head with vanity, sink, toilet, lots of storage, and shower stall.
Opposite is the Guest SR with over/under Bunk beds, 4 large drawers under the lower berth, a built in desk aft with shelves above where all the ship's logs and system manuals are stored. Forward in this Stateroom is a built-in dresser with a TV above and a deep hanging locker/closet outboard.
Moving aft in the hallway is the Starboard Walk-In Engine-room with dual entry doors, easy to access to all sides of the 130hp Diesel Engine, a work-bench area, plenty of peg-boards with spares of all kinds, plus lots of tools. In this engine room is the hot water heater, raised up on a shelf, holding tank, as well as spare prop, sight tubes for the Starboard Fuel Tanks which are located aft of the engine and form the aft wall of the engine room are easy to read, as well as two Group 27 Batteries and one of the two MasterVolt Battery chargers.
Opposite, across the hall is the Port Engine-room with easy access to all sides of the Port Diesel engine, as well as to the 19.5KW and 6Kw Kohler Diesel Generators that are located outboard of the main engine and raised up on a platform. Three additional Group 27 batteries are located forward of the main engine. The bilges in this lower level are dry and clean. Fuel tanks and sight tubes are located aft of the Port engine, as well as another new MasterVolt multi-stage Battery Charger.
Further Aft to Starboard beyond a solid varnished teak Hallway door is the Master Head with a bathtub, shower curtain above, vanity with sink, Electric Head and plenty of storage above and below the countertops.
All the way Aft is the Master Stateroom with a Queen Centerline Walk-around Bed and to Port are the stacked Bosch front-loading Washer & Dryer with a decorative free-standing hinged woven straw room-divider screen to hide them when not in use. Further aft to Port are 3 adjacent full-height Hanging Lockers with sliding panel varnished teak doors on each section and a deep and 36" wide drawer at the bottom of each locker.
Further Aft to Port and Starboard on either side of the bed are built-in teak Dressers each with Four banks of drawers well-suited for a King and Queen. Next to each side of the head of the bed against the aft bulkhead are two built-in night-stands with storage below and two free-standing lamps. Above the Port dresser is an aft-facing, wall-mounted 36" LCD TV. Forward of the Starboard Dresser is a full-height Hanging Locker with a drawer at the bottom.
Al spaces are dry, odor-free and well ventilated by the upgraded A/C systems with reverse heat, as well as bronze opening ports in every area. The exposed ceiling beams in the lower level are painted white and add additional space and light to these areas.
Hull and DeckNo one made wooden hulls of the quality of Grand Banks in the 1970's. Canoe Island has had the best of care over the years, including some minor preventive bottom re-planking in 2014 when last hauled for bottom paint and a survey by a well-respected experienced SAMS Accredited Marine Surveyor. Her more recent in-the-water survey was completed in May 2015 and all surveyor recommendations were followed and remedied. The current owner has made many improvements and upgrades since that time.
A Europa-Style Trawler, this 1974 Grand Banks 50 has an expansive foredeck, with seating and storage under it in front of the pilothouse, wide side decks with access to the Pilothouse from either side, and a full beam, hardtop covered aft deck.The foredeck has a heavy-duty 12V Windlass with chain & rope gypsies, a 40# Rocna Anchor with all-chain rode on the anchor pulpit and roller, as well as a large Danforth anchor stored on deck. All teak hand-rails and teak trim is varnished and is covered with recently made Sunbrella sun-covers. All deck hatches, including 3 new custom teak and smoked Plexi deck hatches are also covered with custom Sunbrella covers.
The Flybridge is accessed from a ladder on the port side of the aft deck which leads to the aft flybridge deck with SS railings on each side, a pivoting BitecNomare aluminum Super Winch Davit capable of lifting and lowering a 2008 11'4" Boston Whaler Tender with a 15hp Mercury 2007 4-stroke Outboard motor, stored on chocks.
Moving forward the Flybridge is enclosed with Sunbrella and U-Zip vinyl side curtains and a Bimini top of Sunbrella stretched over an aluminum tubed frame. The helm is centered all the way forward with back-to-back bench seats, with propane storage and a 2016 30,000BTU Cruise-Air Air Conditioning system ducted to the main level below. The helm has a varnished wood steering wheel, Morse Engine Controls, engine gauges, as well as navigation electronics. Additionally, for entertainment, there is a 50" LCD TV and refrigerator within the enclosure.

Mechanical SystemsCanoe Island has twin 130 HP American Marine/John Deere 404 6 Cylinder Diesel Engines with only 839 hours. These efficient and long-lasting engines have Velvet Drive Transmissions , Racor fuel filters and are freshwater cooled. The separate engine rooms are spacious and provide easy access to all sides of each engine. This 1974 Grand Banks 50 Europa has full engine instrumentation at the Pilothouse helm and the Flybridge helm.
In addition to a pressure water system with a Whirlpool 120V water heater located in the Starboard Engine room, there are Four 12V Bilge pumps and one 120V Bilge Pump; all equipped with automatic float switches. Additionally, this vessel is equipped with a high bilge water alarm system. The sanitation system includes 3 VacuFlush Toilets; one in the Guest Head, one in the forward Head, and a Galleymaid toilet in the Master Head.
