Bold, beautiful, and ready for adventure, African Queen is a high quality 60'' center cockpit cutter that offers everything a sailor could wish for, including superb performance and spacious, well designed, impeccably finished accommodations. The present owners got on board 10 years ago with little sailing experience to begin a world adventure, and having completed this journey are now selling. In African Queen, they found just the boat of their desires. She was designed by David Pedrick and built by Camper & Nicholsons. Pedrick''s design gave them a boat that tracked true and steady and could put 200 miles behind them on a daily basis in the trade winds from the Galapagos to the Marquesas islands, and stand up to the meltemies in Greece. For these same reasons, Robin Knox-Johnston selected this same hull mold when he built his Clipper 60''s some 10 years ago. David Pedrick''s designs include successful America''s Cup and offshore racers, and many highly admired custom and semi custom cruising designs. The owners wanted an interior design with lots of light below and found that African Queen, with the light anigre interior woodwork, the extra ceiling height, and the large windows to let in more light was the right choice. The center cockpit design was also important to them since it provides a large seating area with four comfortable corners for seating while cruising. The dining table folds out to accommodate a large dinner group. The aft steering station is another plus as it provides a separate area for the helm and sheet winches, and is a real plus in Med-mooring. Using a naval architect, they then added a small hard dodger in the main cockpit for sun protection and Biminis for the rest of the main cockpit and for the aft steering station. The builders, Camper & Nicholsons, have a world wide reputation for excellence with a reputation for fine craftsmanship and innovation for over 200 years. They have built some of the finest yachts in sailing history. This design was their glagship when built and is noted in books detailing the finest yachts ever built.During their ownership, the present owners have invested in an extensive refit that included new teak decks and a complete paint job (topsides and superstructure). A full time captain has overseen a comprehensive maintenance routine that has included many upgrades and improvements. Current replacement cost woudl exceed $2m., making this a very good value at her competitive asking price.
