Gracie is a cold-molded, round bottom Norm Cross designed 38'' cruising trimaran. She was built at the Cal Custom Boat Yard on Terminal Island, CA, by Gordon Kemp (of Defender and Defiant fame), using five layers of double diagonal 1/8" mahogany veneer (for a 5/8"+ total), sheathed in fiberglass and W.E.S.T. System epoxy. She has always been painted in linear polyurethane (Awlgrip and Interlux) and has dusty bilges''.Norm told the seller before he passed away, that he thought Gracie was one of the fairest 38s built on the West Coast.Teak and mahogany are used extensively throughout the interior, with mahogany used for all structural timber and framing. This is a very sound, very stiff multihull, with scantlings sized for offshore work. At 12,000 lbs (last haulout weight, full tanks, live-aboard load, 90% cruising load), she''s not a featherweight by modern standards, but she''s dry, stable, safe, comfortable, and deceptively fast.
