This Pearson 36 Cutter, named Whisper, is a fantastic value to the cruising boat market. You could easily find yourself sailing locally or cruising the open ocean in Whisper. She already has a proven record of blue water travel.
Whisper boasts a new Universal 44 hp engine in 1995 with minimal hours, Adler Barbour DC refrigeration/freezer, Hot Water, Propane Cabin Heater, Auxiliary heat, inverter, and Color GPS/Chartplotter. This Pearson 36 cutter also has Kato dinghy davits and a nice inventory of other cruising gear.
The Pearson 36 Cutter is one of the best designs Bill Shaw ever made. She was built by Pearson Yachts in 1982.
Pearson practically invented the fiberglass lay-up system and built some of the toughest yachts ever made in America.
Pearson is still in business today, building commercial fiberglass products.
The Pearson 36 cutter is a boat that is perfectly at home cruising the shallows or crossing an ocean.
The Pearson 36 makes a very comfortable cruising boat because of her very effective keel design and her meaty displacement of 17,700 pounds.
Stout to say the least, but, a Pearson 36 cutter will sail excellently, just about anywhere you would like to go.
Bill Shaw says of the Pearson 36 Cutter: "I'm confident you'll like this boat. Coming in from Cuttyhunk this past summer on a blustery day when most of the gang stayed put, one of our guests said, 'Boy, she's got broad shoulders!' I thought that was a nice way to put it." |
| Accommodations |
WHISPER'S interior is beautiful with classic yacht design elements. She features teak joinery with a teak and holly cabin sole. WHISPER features 6'3" headroom.
Having classic elements, WHISPER has a proper navigation table to starboard, within easy access of the cockpit. To port she has an expansive galley with Adler Barbour refrigeration, a Hillrange 3 burner propane stove and oven, and Microwave. She also features hot and cold pressure water and a Seagull IV water purification system.
Going forward the main salon offers opposing settees. The starboard berth extends to a full berth and a half and the port settee converts to another sleeping berth.
WHISPER has a bulkhead mounted dining table w/ drop leaf, which safely stores out of the way when not in use.
Forward of the salon, WHISPER features a large hanging locker with drawers to port and the head to starboard. The head is quite large with separate shower, electric toilet, basin with hot and cold pressure water, and storage locker.
The private owner's cabin features a bureau to port and opposing bureau to starboard, allowing plenty of storage space.
The Vee Berth is very comfortable with a removable center filler and the cabin features shelving all around.
WHISPER also has a smart exterior! Her cockpit is very large (8 feet!) with full-sized seats and high backrests, making you feel comfortable and secure on the water.
She has a stainless steel wheel on an Edson pedestal, with engine controls and a 4 inch lighted compass. She also has a nice teak cockpit table. Her deck has bulwarks for safe footing and well positioned hand holds on the cabin, for journeys forward of the mast.
Speaking of making your way forward on the deck while underway, Bill Shaw designed this proper yacht for short handed sailing.

| Sails & Rigging |
Bill Shaw designed the Pearson 36 Cutter for ease when sailing shorthanded or alone. He commented that in the age of tall sticks, overpowering genoas and the absence of a half dozen teenagers aboard, sailing many boats is formidable. In the original brochure, Shaw said:
" Welcome to the world of short handed sailing ... to a time when a split rig or modern cutter may be just what the doctor ordered. For pure ease of handling and simplicity, the contemporary cutter with an all inboard rig or with the optional addition of a roller furling jib-top is a particular joy. For my money, there is no expereince in sailing more pleasant than beating up a narrow channel or weaving into a crowded anchorage alone, under full sail, knowing you're in complete control."
